Kim (male), the owner and head mechanic of Bytheway Auto Repair, is one of what seems to be the last few all-around good guys in the world. He purposefully keeps his business small and local, and he resists the urge to raise his labor rates and parts markups to come closer to other shops in the State College/central Pennsylvania area. In the summer time he works 4 10-hour days so that he can have Friday and the weekend to spend with his kids. His parking lot is small, as his garage is right off the side of a house (not his house). My wife and I trust him so much that when we faced car trouble in the middle of the relocation of our home to another city 3 hours away, we returned our car to Bytheway. Instead of just doing the work, Kim took the time to research manufacturer recalls on our vehicle, and he determined that the work could be done for free under a warranty recall. He then loaded our car onto his flatbed and drove it 2.5 hours (one way) to a dealer that was both familiar and trusted by him and coincidentally closer to our new location. The cost he charged us to drive the car to the dealer site for the warranty repair was at least $250 cheaper than what any towing company would have charged. We've used Bytheway for repairs on our Subaru and Nissan, and we learned about him from a recommendation by a local private car dealer who uses Bytheway for all of his repair and resale-preparation needs. In short, he is worth the drive out of State College.

I became aware of Mr. Bytheway's shop when he "checked out" a car I was selling to a customer of his. He spent about an hour going over the car top to bottom and, because I hadn't asked ahead of time, I asked him who was paying the bill for his inspection. He told me that this was a service he provided for his customers at no charge!! My next question was if he was taking on any new customers!! I have always been very satisfied with the work done and his prices are fair and reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend his to anyone.
