Jun 30, 2008
About 6 or 8 years ago I was stranded hundreds of miles from home when my already ten-year old car's transmission failed. Through a friend of Steve's father I was referred to his garage, and with only one price in hand (from the Ford dealership) I figured I just had to get a second price. Not only was Steve's price considerably lower, but his detailed assurance about the value and quality of a rebuilt transmission (including its multi-year warranty, with the workmanship backed by his own garage) sold me. I took the train back home and in a few weeks I returned to his small garage, talked with him, took it out for a quick road test and drove home with absolute confidence in his skill and his expert judgement. He stuck with his price (no extras added due to unexpected findings, or any of that stuff). That '91 Ford is still my primary vehicle - - I recommend this mechanic to anyone and everyone! This past week (June 2008) I happened to be traveling down that same road with on business. It was exactly 6pm but I convinced my business colleague to stop so I could personally shake Steve's hand. Although he was already gone I did get to tell the half-dozen other mechanics to pass along my appreciation and respect to him - - and they all nodded knowledgeably: when I said Oh, perhaps my car was done by one of you, they said No, that would have been done by Steve himself!!
