I accidentally turned in to this driveway instead of a Volvo specialist I'd found here, and was immensely impressed. I had a $1200 estimate from a 15-minute exam at Meineke, and Mike was honest but didn't go overboard in explaining why he suspected the shop 1) hadn't done a thorough inspection and 2) was overcharging. I left my car for a few hours -- no charge for a very thorough inspection -- and when Mike called he explained very well what they had found. When I returned to the shop he showed me on a diagram what was happening with the car, and when he went over the list of suggested repairs he was very specific about the state of each item (the brake lines were old, but could hold out awhile longer -- these rotors could wait but these couldn't for safety). When I said I couldn't afford the repairs and I would have to come back later, he treated me respectfully. My car then decided to not run unless it was in park, so they kept it overnight and volunteered to ask the Volvo place around the corner what they thought about why it wouldn't start, then phoned me with all the information. When I asked about doing only part of the repairs, he explained why it wouldn't be safe to do so, and when I requested that they check the vacuum hoses because that had often been a cause of the failure to run, he did that as well. They're even making it easy for me, to have a tow truck come get my car to park it until I can afford to fix it, not asking me to be there when the tow truck arrives. I'll definitely be returning when I have the money for the repairs!

These guys are great. I've owned three cars, each purchased used and each over 15 years old at the date of purchase (I'm a grad. student). Given this, I have no idea how well these guys work on newer cars. However, with all the mishaps and malfunctions that I've experienced, these guys have always been competent, honest, and more than eager to deal with my constant questions. Plus,--and this is the best part--they have some of the best prices in town. (I've taken their estimates to other mechanics, only to find that AT&B were the lowest.) The owner, Mike, has lived in the Portland area for years and has always been honest and oriented to costumer service. The shop manager, Scott, is also a great guy. They've been one of the most honest, reliable mechanics I've known. Great guys.

This is an excellent place. I have brought my car here for basic tire repair and they always fixed the problem quickly and free of charge! I was so delighted, I bought my new set of tires there and had some work done as well. They were quick and polite and are bery conviniently located. I have recommended this place to at least 3 people who have had similar results.

These guys are great. I first went in 1997 needing a new tire. since then they have helped me with various problems on several vehicles. For tires or brakes, they are the automatic choice. With other problems, I turn to them first, if they think it can be done better, or more cheaply but well elsewhere- they tell me. Mike communicates very well and provides an assessment of clearly explained options for the work they do.

Mike and the others at Affordable are great. I've had several vehicles, and initially went there for tires. Subsequently I've taken the car in for brake work, electrical mysteries and they helped me salvage a totalled (roommate), yet operational car (kept it going for another five years.) When they can't do it, or they know someone who might be able to more cheaply, they tell you. They are very good at explaining problems and finding the best safe solution for your budget.

Full service shop, the most competent and honest mechanics I have ever dealt with. Took our 1991 Toyota Camry in for the first time in 2000, having always taken it to the dealer. I didn't tell them about any pre-existing problems, although I knew there were some major things requiring repair from what the dealer had told me. They told me about all the major issues that they noticed and gave me estimates that were roughly half what the dealer had said. I told them to go ahead with all the repairs; they were completed on time and charged exactly what they had estimated. I have taken all the cars in for all service ever since, these guys are great!
