Steve is an honest, good-natured guy. He has no problem charging diddly-squat for a simple repair. Once, I had my car in and out of his shop for something like $8. When he says he will work you in on Tuesday, you can bet that on Tuesday he'll be working on it. When I go to pick up the car, he is happy to talk through with me what he found and what further mysteries those observations revealed. He used to have employees, but downsized his shop because supervising others kept him from getting to work on cars.

Shop was recommended by our old mechanic in Albany (J&J Werkstadt) because this shop deals with our year & make. I'm working through a check engine light message that is inconclusive, and these guys are pretty thorough, making incremental suggestions as things are ruled out. The local dealership is nice, but more likely to charge for a big job than to find the actual problem and solve only that. So far, so good, and the phone person is really knowledgeable, which helps. I like it when a shop has a good dog around, too. Sort of therapeutic as I wait for the damage.

Richard Cross is the owner/mechanic of his own shop. He does excellent work and doesn't mind explaining what he's doing while he's doing it.
