I hadn't bothered to look, as I assumed several people would already have listed Mike. We were referred by a friend who goes to his church. Mike has 3 or 4 bays but works by himself, and is usually busy, sometimes booking a week ahead. I have never seen a more knowledgable all-around auto mechanic, with the possible exception of the car guys themselves. Having done virtually all my own car and truck repairs for nearly 30 years until my wife got this what I consider "new technology" car, I have been very impressed with Mike's work. I notice that another garage in Stillwater was voted best in town: Mike's Yellow Pages ad says, "Our customers say, 'It's the best auto care in Stillwater.'" I say, it would be hard to find better.

In 1996 I had a strange problem with my Corolla, in that it would start and run fine in the morning, but if then I parked for a while it would crank but refuse to start. If I waited longer after that it would then start and run. The problem got worse and worse, and the dealership claimed it was a fuel system problem (despite my rebuilding the carburetor.) It was in and out of the shop getting diaphragms and vacuum hoses replaced, to no avail. They then attempted to sell me a remanufactured carburetor, luckily I got them to agree that I did to not pay for the parts or the labor installing this carburetor if it didn't resolve the problem. I knew it couldn't be the problem, as whenever the motor wouldn't run, I wasn't getting any spark. There was no way the carburetor was involved. Finally, I took it to Mike Abernathy at Abby Auto Fix-it. Within 20 minutes he found the problem-- a magnetic pickup in the distributor that acts like points used to in the old days. Whenever it got hot, it would quit switching in response to the magnet on the distributor shaft. Mike ordered the appropriate part, and I never had a problem with the ignition again. I wish I'd gone to him the first time!

I've had Mike work on at least half a dozen different vehicles over the past 20 years. I have nothing but praise for his work. He's an excellent diagnostician, and completes his work in a timely manner. I find him to be unquestionably honest. When it's a tough problem to find or fix, he stays with it until he and the customer are satisfied. He's made me a strong believer in the value of a good, trustworthy, independent mechanic.

Mike, owner of Abby Auto, was recommended to us by several of our friends. He has done several repairs on our vehicles (GMC & Nissan) correctly and in a timely manner. He usually has the lowest quotes for repairs and has not charged over his quoted price yet! His garage is a little out of the way for Stillwater residents but is worth it!
