Oak Grove understands troubleshooting. This is a skill the local VW dealership lacks. Oak Grove is both highly competent and reasonably priced. Highly recommended.

My car died on the way home from work on a Wednesday night. It was 2:00 the next afternoon before the tow truck managed to get the car to him. The work was done before 5:00, and the prices were incredible! Norm does business by word-of-mouth only, so don't bother trying to find him in the Yellow Pages. If you need a mechanic you can trust, who knows what he's doing, and who does not inflate labor charges to the level of Dick Cheney's salary, you can stop searching. Thanks, Car Talk, for providing such an AWESOME service! After trying only two mechanics recommended on your site, I've found the one I'm sticking with.

I found out about Norm (Oak Grove Import Auto) on this site when my '99 VW Golf TDI was having some transmission troubles (slippage due to a fluid leak). VW transmissions are notoriously impossible to work on for anyone other than a dedicated tranny shop or VW dealer... both of which charge pretty high service rates because of their specialty. Norm was very up front about his capabilities from the start, telling me that he probably would not be able to tear apart the transmission if it was a serious problem, but he would check and hope for the best. Because of his honesty and great reviews on this forum (not to mention his vast experience evident by 30-ish VWs sitting around the lot in various states of improvement), I decided to give him a shot. After one day, Norm had diagnosed my problem with a very thorough explanation and extremely reasonable rate. As a former automotive engineer, I was completely impressed by his high quality/low cost approach to fixing my car. He clearly knows his VWs through and through, and I agree with the other comments in saying that if you have a VW in the Dayton area that needs some work, then you definitely need to go and visit Norm. I will definitely go directly to Oak Grove Import Auto the next time that I need VW service!

I have been going to this repair shop since I got my first car. The owner is the only mechanic, and he always does a good job. He explains what the problem was and shows the old parts he takes off. He charges reasonable prices for labor and parts, and I have had him several times not charge me for labor because there wasn't a problem or it was something minor that was done while I waited. He is always honest, and has ordered parts for me that he did not put on my car.

You will not find a more honest or competent mechanic.

I was searching for a mechanic after the VW dealer quoted me an astronomical price for repairs on my '93 Cabriolet, and I found Norm on the Car Talk Mechanic files. I thought I should return the favor and write a recommendation. Norm is an excellent mechanic - he is upfront about repairs needed, and ones that he sees your car might need in the future. His prices are incredibly reasonable. He will often give you a choice in the type of parts he orders for your car while giving you the price differences and his personal recommendation. He is quick with diagnosis and repairs and can be flexible when you drop your car off. My overall experiences with Norm's repairs have been positive, not to mention it's fun looking at the damaged parts he took out of your car and all the old VW's he has on his lot!
