Rising sun works on any asian model. Harold used to work on motorcycles but found out that there isn't any way to make money doing that.

I had been experiencing a terrible shudder in the front end of my '98 Subaru Outback for over a year. The dealer told me that I needed a new transfer case. The explanation was that the front tires had 20,000 fewer miles than the rear tires (I'd had a blowout), and therefore had a different diameter. This would cause the all-wheel drive to stay engaged, which was consequently wrecking the clutch and the transfer case. They estimated $1500 for a new transfer case and 4 new tires. The explanation sounded fishy to me, so I went to Harold for a second opinion. I found him and Rising Sun Automotive on this database. Harold checked his archived newsgroup messages on Subarus, and found that a few other mechanics had seen this problem before. Turns out that changing the transmission oil (using a high grade oil) takes care of the problem. $27 for labor and the 6 quarts of oil, and the shuddering was gone within 20 miles. 3 months later and the problem has yet to return! I was very impressed with Harold's resourcefulness and honesty, and appreciated that he chose to try the simplest fix first. I will definitely continue to use Rising Sun as my primary repair shop. They saved me $1500!

I searched for quite some time for a good, honest mechanic before finding the Rising Sun comments on this site and deciding to give them a try. I've since had them work on my brakes and exhaust and have been extremely happy. They've also taken time to explain quite a bit and, perhaps most impressively, were straightforward about what didn't need done.

Reasonably priced, honest and straightforward. I do as much of my own repairs as I can, but when it's beyond my scope I won't hesitate to use Rising Sun. They have worked on Nissan's, Mazda's and Honda's for me.

They are the reason my Forester is still in daily use! Rising Sun is my "go to" mechanic shop for this car because they have treated me well as a new customer and returning customer. I have only ever talk to an actual mechanic one time all communications are through the nice lady that answers the phone, schedules the work, calls back with information and settels the bill. However, I feel that if something was in question a mechanic would be made available. They have never screwed something up so I can't answer that question.
