This shop is a welcome alternative to our local Volkswagen dealer. On one recent occasion they replaced valve cover gaskets to stop hot/burning oil fumes with hot engine at stop lights. The problem was not solved. When I then took the car reluctantly to the VW dealer they necessarily replaced the valve cover gaskets again and continued to fix the remaining problem: "Camshaft tensioner seals." When I went back to Autobahn and explained what had happened, they offered immediately to refund the cost of their original repair -- very classy indeed. (I did tell them I would - never- object to the replacement of associated parts with everything opened up for the primary repair. Sample: Years ago, 1977 Chevy wagon, worn camshaft. Local GM dealer service manager asked for permission to replace the timing chain with everything opened up: cost now, low; cost later, high. Agreed!) Earlier Autobahn had done the major 100K mile maintenance, including new timing belt, were less expensive than VW, and gave me a 2-year warranty against problems. Nothing has gone wrong as yet and I'm glad for the protection for this 6-cyl "interference" engine. Finally, it usually doesn't take long to get an appointment.
