While three of us were on our way to the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle, Pa. one of out crew picked up a NASTY bottom end knock. We pulled off of the highway at a gas station. The owner of the car with the problem is a guy named Bill. Bill asked a guy at the station if there was a good shop nearby, the guy had us follow him over to Five Star where we met the owner Brian Darcy. Brian could only be described as one of the most technically competant mechanics I have ever met. We are all capable mechanics by hobby, but Brian is a real pro! He let the car cool down for a while and as soon as he had an open bay, brought the car in and put it up in the air. When they dropped the pan, we found that Bill had wiped out the bottom end of his engine due to a defect in the rebuild that had recently been done by a shop in Massachusetts (relax guys, it wasn't in Cambridge....). Brian and Darin, one of his mechanics, checked out the engine and determined that it was not repairable in time to get us on our way that day. Bill ended up having to have a friend come down and bring his trailer so he could get the car home. We were offered an air conditioned waiting room and cold drinks while we waited. The car got home safely and is being repaired now. The point of this letter is that we had never seen or heard of these guys before, We were in trouble and Brian and his crew bent over backwards to help us. Having heard all of the horror stories about people who had broken down on a trip, Five Star was a ray of hope. I wish I lived closer, these guys would have all my work and I could spend my weekends at shows instead of turning wrenches. Thanks to Brian and his entire team for your help that hot summer day. You guys were honest and most importantly, knew what you were talking about. We will never forget your professionalism and will probably stop in next year just to say hello and thank them again, they were THAT kind of people. Five Star truly rates Five Stars!!!!!
