Alex, the owner, has worked on my cars for several years. He has a professional shop of his own now; before that he worked out of his garage at home, and before that he worked for another nearby mechanic. He has worked on my air- and watercooled VWs, including my current Vanagons (but works on all makes). He used to have a Vanagon syncro of his own. I believe he also has experience with race cars associated with Skip Barber Racing. He applies knowledge, intelligence, and common sense to tackle automotive problems. His hourly rate is probably about average for the area, and he is fair in billing. He will allow you to supply your own parts if you want, and will try to be competitive with online retailers for parts he supplies. Matt and Carl are also mechanics there. The Motorworks is near the Connecticut border, and would be worth the trip across the border. I'm about 25 minutes away, and while there are closer mechanics, it is worth the trip there.
