I was taken by an unscrupulous individual and my own irrational exuberance, and I bought a big old Olds Station Wagon - a Custom Cruiser, probably an '84 or '85, as I recall. I had three little children, a new job, and a new life in a new city. This happened some time ago. Well, the car had major problems, always gumming up a particular spark plug, running lousy, stuff like that. The local Olds dealer DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE. I was new in the area (did I mention that?), trusted a neighbor's advice, and took the car to Roger Chandler (of Chandler's Automotive). He immediately recognized the problem as a worn cam shaft, saying GM had tried a new alloy in their cam shafts for a while, but found the lobes tended to wear down. So, he replaced the cam shaft, and the engine ran wonderfully better. However, I soon noticed another problem, a chugging and almost violent shaking as I reached 45mph or so on the highway. Of course, Roger new exactly what that was too. Turned out to be the overdrive mechanism in the transmission that's supposed to save some gas at higher cruising speeds. It takes the proper RPM and vacuum conditions to engage the overdrive, probably something the car had not been able to do for a good long time, what with the cam shaft problem et al. Roger mentioned the least painless way to fix it would be to disable the overdrive altogether, which he did, gratis, I believe. As soon as I paid off that car loan, I started buying and servicing all my cars at Chandler's always getting a very good deal, backed by generous guarantees, etc. Roger is always willing to talk and talk and talk about your car's performance, technology etc, almost to a fault! Anyway, he and his sizable shop are a great place to know about up here in the remote, inaccessible part of our country known as central NY!

I love these guys. For two years they dutifully fixed an old Mercury Sable for me, giving me their best advice and giving me great deals on parts and service. Their free shuttle service is wonderful, including once when I left my house keys on my car ring and after dropping me off at my home came all the way back down with my house keys! Recently my Sable (finally) died, and they helped me finance the car of my dreams (a 2006 Charger) in two days, with a wonderful warranty and a generous trade in value on my old bucket. I will always recommend them enthusiastically, and Roseanne in sales is a joy to work with. Go to Chandler's!
