Several times Robert has told me a repair is not necessary right now and won't cost further $$ to ignore for a while if I'm saving money, or if I need to pass inspection. A few times he has troubleshot something, e.g. the oil light comes on frequently, by replacing a small part, like the switch for absolutely free. I live a few blocks away and more than once I have seen him drive people home if he needs to keep the car. I could go on and on. He knows what he's doing and he's honest and also nice.

I also have a 1990 VW and have had good experiences at Fleet. Eddie is my mechanic. They are honest and when they mess up, they admit the problem -- they did the emission test wrong & when I got a ticket for it, they corrected the test and then reimbursed me for the ticket! They made no excuses, just corrected their error. The work is always first rate and I have never felt like they were trying to double-talk me. It's also very conveniently located near the F,N,R subway stop.
