I have a 2000 Passat. I felt that my car was not receiving proper maintenance service at the dealership, and, more importantly, I was tired of being at the mercy of the service advisors at the dealerships and the unexplained discrepancies between the dealer service schedule (designed to maximize income for the dealer) and the scheduled maintenance in the owner's manual. Last year I found German Auto Repair Technicians in the yellow pages. After checking with the Better Business Bureau and also reading the comments of about three satisfied customers in on-line forums, I decided to give them a try. Ken Raab, who is the owner, does almost all of the work himself. In the one year and three months that he has been taking care of my car, he has used only OEM or better parts. For example, he did not replace the battery with an OEM battery, but with a very high quality one from Interstate. He has found time to fit me in whenever I have had a repair emergency. Sometimes, he doesn't voluntarily explain things as much as I would like. I think this is because he doesn't expect me to be interested in or to understand the technical details. However, whenever I have asked for an explanation or ask him a question, he usually provides clear and detailed explanations. I have found him to be very thorough and straightforward and feel that this is a business where everything is handled with competence and integrity.
