Mark looks for ways to save me money on this visit and collect it on the next. "You don't need brakes yet, but next time we better put on new pads." I don't feel gouged because Mark waits until the next visit to empty my wallet. They have a van service that runs people to and from the nearby train station (Princeton Jct, NJ) and to my (nearby) home. He never underestimated a job, even changing a clutch on a Fiero V-6, which I have heard from authoritative sources is a "som-bitch" effort. He also services my 1988 Reliant without making me feel like a dork, and did not blanche when I wrote an order for wheel balancing specifying that I felt a shimmy between 88 and 91 mph. (It's OK, I was driving the Fiero not the Reliant in Vermont at 6 am Sunday). At least one mechanic is hot-rodding a Camero or Firebird every Saturday morning on his own time. Mark services my 1986 Fiero GT and 1988 Reliant. My wife's Volvo 850 is still under warranty and goes to the dealer. She insisted on getting the Turbo 850.

They are open from 6:00 AM until 7:00 PM on weekdays and 'til Noon on Saturday. Their van will drive you to your office in the area or to the Princeton Jct. train station (about 1/2 mile away). The repair costs are not cheap, but I think in this case "you get what you pay for" is vaild. Large, well-kept shop; many certificates on the wall implies competent mechanics (in theory). Current keeps our '98 Buick, '92 Mazda and '91 Dodge in good shape.

This garage has worked on my cars (Chevy, Buick, BMW, Mazda) since 1990 and I am please to write this second recommendation (my first recommendation is gone so it looks like Car Talk revised this part of the Web site or purged old recommendations). I have seen and heard comments about the cost of repairs here, but I feel it's a question of price vs. value. My experience is that this shop uses only quality replacement parts which may make the repair cost higher than other places. Free shuttle service is available in the morning starting at 6:00 AM (it might be 6:30) to local businesses and the Princeton Junction train station.

My '94 Nissan Sentra started leaking oil in 2004. Over to a neighbourhood Nissan dealer, "It'll be a $100 (plus change)". They did the work, but when handing over the keys said, "Oh, by the way, there's another leak, and it'll take $800!". Next, to a specialist on imports. He had the car for 3 days, then adviced me that it'll cost an arm and a leg. This honest man didn't charge anything for his diagnosis. In the mean time, the leak has become a steady drip and I was thinking of getting rid of the car. Took it to Mark's Trackside in early 2006. Fixed the leak for $250. The car now has 205K miles, runs fine and no oil leak at all. And yes, his shuttle runs from 6am. I wish they were open on weekends.

I cannot say enough good things about Mark. Completely honest and gave very good advice. Work was prompt and professional. I was a poor grad student with a crappy car and he was a total savior. I sent all my friends to Mark's Trackside and they all had great experiences.

Great Auto shop that gives you rides back home and then pick you up when your car is ready.

MARK REALLY EXAMINES THE CARS AND KEEPS OUR CARS RUNNING SAFELY. HE AND HIS STAFF ARE PERCEPTIVE AND ANTICIPATE PROBLEMS AND FIX THEM BEFORE WE OR OUR CHILDREN GET STUCK. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN CHARGED TOO MUCH OR BEEN DISAPPOINTED IN THE RESULTS OF HIS WORK.
