Pete Quilla is great with cars. He runs a good shop with good mechanics like Robin. They have always treated me well, have taken the time to show me parts and problems and explain how it should work. They don't go fishing for work to do, they get to the problem and do what they can to fix it. Highly recommend this shop.

I have nothing but compliments for the guys at Village. They've been taking care of my car -- first a Ford Escort, then a Mazda Protege -- since I first moved to Jersey City 10 years ago. Charley and the guys have been nothing but professional with me, always taking time to explain things to this car-clueless chick. I trust them considerably more than any of the Mazda dealerships in the area; they've always been more reasonable with both repair suggestions and prices. I just hope Pete gets better and comes back to the shop soon... though he certainly deserves to retire and rest!

Imagine an honest car mechanic! and not just one, a whole shop full!! They are wonderful about quoting the exact price, explaining everything before they do it, and then doing excellent work. We are delighted that we found them (by reading about them on this website!).

I have been using this shop for 19 years now. I go way out of my way to have work done here because of the honesty and workmanship they provide. Pete, the former owner is out due to a stroke. His son Charley runs the place now and still has excellent mechanics like Robin. My last visit was for leaking fluids on my '93 Saturn. They estimated $324 due to water pump leak and oil leak. But when they got in there they did some looking around and found the oil leak was not as serious and didn't cost nearly as much. The bill was $174. Of course this doesn't always happen, but I point it out because Robin is a good mechanic and he will find the best way to repair the car. They explain EVERYTHING they are going to do and everything they did. They show me the parts if I want to see them. Charley is a great guy to deal with. The place is about an 7 minute walk to the PATH train at Grove Street.
