Wolfgang and Steve really know their stuff. They specialize in working on Saabs, Volvos, and Volkswagens, but I would trust them with any import. Wolfgang took the time to test drive my '87 Golf with me, then put it up on the lift and walked me through all of its current and potential problems. I really must strongly, strongly recommend them!

These guys are interesting, entertaining, and competent. We talk hiking, books, art, in addition to cars. They are most accomodating when I bring my own oil or parts, charging (very reasonable) labor costs in those circumstances. They always give me the heads up on things that will need attention soon, but not urgent. That builds trust, as far as I'm concerned.

The first time I went to Automeister, in 1993, I asked them to examine two cars I had "dibs" on. One was a 79 Volvo wagon, the other an 82. After examining each, and giving me a detailed lesson in auto mechanics, they told me to keep the 79 and sell the 82,which I did. They have serviced my 79 volvo ever since, and it is still running well at over 228,000 miles. Wolf has an occasional mood issue, but even then he is a dam good machanic. Steve is more congenial; also a good mechanic. They (mostly Wolf) have taken the time to make me understand what my car is doing, why, and why not. They encouraged me to take an adult ed course in auto mechanics for women, and now we can discuss cars more evenly. I trust them with my car, and I have every reason to believe that they are honest with me, and in their work. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a good, honest mechanic at a fair price. They have many women clients, and I think the reason is that they treat everyone equally, male or female. The only down side is that they are about 1/2 hour from where I live, and there is no public transportation in that area. Their loaner supply is somewhat lacking. Inconvenient though they may be on occasional I think it is well worth the extra effort to take my car there. They have not been adverse to driving me home when the car had to stay more than a couple of hours.

I've been going to Wolf and Steve for 7 years. They are extremely nice and trustworthy. They take the time to explain what is wrong with your vehicle and treat you with respect, and don't talk down to you. They are very "on the level". I used to take my 87 Volvo 740 Turbo to them, but now I take my Chevy S-10. Even though I don't have a Volvo anymore, I find myself driving the extra distance because they don't cheat people or overcharge, and they are very honest. They are also great human beings and I love supporting them.

I took my TDI to Wolfgang and Steve based on reccomendations from this site. I was not disappointed. After taking me to task for neglecting the maintenance of my car, Wolfgang explained the what and why of the repairs needed. Unfortunately, he was not able to finish the car when he promised. He did, however, make arrangements for alternative transportation. I don't know is this is SOP, but it is a very good idea. Their labor rate is $60/hr. Not bad, considering the experience it buys you. I told Wolfgang he would be seeing more of me and my TDI.

My family has been using this shop for years and have always gotten exceptional service from them. They are always honest and do careful work, always placing safety first when they recommend maintenance. Their parts cars can come in handy if you prefer a used part for your older car, and they always guarantee those parts and their work. I never take my vehicles any where else (we have Volvos and a Subaru)unless I'm too far out of town to get to them.

Steve and Wolfgang are first, good mechanics. Each has strengths that compliment the other. Wolf likes to put my car up on the rack and teach me about what goes on "underneath". When my car has a problem they not only fix it, but they teach me about what they do and why. I believe in maintaining my car in good condition, and they support this without costing me a fortune. I have taken 3 courses in auto mechanics, not to do my own repairs but to understand what the mechanics do - with this base of knowledge I know that I am getting good service at a fair price at Automeister. The only down side is that they are about 30 miles from my home, and they do not have loaners available. The only space there for waiting while work is being done is a somewhat shabby office. Otherwise, I have been very satisfied with their work for over 15 years, and I strongly recommend them to friends and all.
