I thought these guys were great. The emphasis here is on "were." I have gotten some good and professional but not cheap service. Dan, the head guy, can be very opinionated, but he is usually right. They are generally honest, but my last experience was unpleasant: they charged me for service rendered upon a previous visit. Now these guys always bill you upon services rendered so something else was at work. Seems Dan was dead sure I would be needing a certain part and would be back for it--so at the end of 20 mins of attention given to the car in vain to find conclusive evidence of the need he said "You'll be back." in my response saying "We'll see how the intermittent problem goes". The money guy said that there was basically no charge. Hence my suprise when the extra was tacked on to my bill several weeks later. I just don't like doing business that way; it corrodes the trust.

More expensive than some but with their advice I will keep my Toyota Camry for another 175,000 miles.

My wife and I, and our five children have been trusting our vehicles (and there have been many) to Exeter Foreign Car (AKA Exeter Motor Works) for the last 18 years. The work is always done in a reasonable time and done right - or they make it right. The rates may be slightly higher, but you get what you pay for. Not only are our cars repaired but they are maintained on the recommended schedules, and we are appraised of the future needs of each car. We have also brought many vehicles to Exeter Foreign Car for pre- purchase inspections and have thereby avoided buying more than one lemon. The most important thing is that we have always felt safe in our vehicles because of this service.

Dan Gill and his crew are the best of the best! It is like going to the top physician at a leading hospital. Do what Dan says, and you'll keep your vehicle way beyond its normal lifespan. Dan and his staff get to know you and your family--again, like having a great relationship with a trusted doctor and medical office--and they respect your lifestyle and, yes, your budget. Although Exeter Motor Works is sometimes criticized for being too expensive, I have found that Dan makes every effort to offer me excellent service, bearing in mind my limited finances. He provides sensible options, also advising customers when it's time to stop throwing money into an older car. Records are computerized and detailed. A very professional business operation!!

Other than the positive comments already made, the proof of the pudding is that in 20 years we have never broken down on the side of the road. They have taken care of our Toyota, Subaru, Audi and three Volvos, the current two with 190k and 220k. Yes I don't like the bills but I assume it would be the same elsewhere. And Dan is like a consultant. You will definitely get your money's worth of explanation and advice. We will have to move away when he retires! The town will be draped in black crepe...

These guys maintained our high mileage cars for 6 years and when we had to move I was more upset about leaving the shop than my family. They did a great job on everything, I travel a lot and I never had to worry about my wife or daughter's cars breaking down. They checked everything and never did work that didn't need to be done. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

My family have been customers for over 25 years and they have always done what it takes to satisify us. They have several divisions and work on foreign, domestic, exotic cars, and boats. The owner is almost always on the premisis and is deeply involved with what is going on in his shop all day long. If you are shopping for the cheapest labor rate they are not your guys. If you want the job done right the first time, try them.

THESE GUYS HAVE BEEN GENIUSES AT WORKING ON MY 1998 HONDA CIVIC -- WITH 210, 000 MILES. THEY ARE NOT CHEAP! BUT THEY DO GREAT WORK. AND THEY EXPLAIN EVERYTING -- IF ASKED --, INCLUDING THE BACK UP PHYSICS, WORST CASE SCENARIOS IF I CAN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT NOW, WHAT PROBABLY NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE COLD WEATHER, etc. you can walk to the shop from the Exeter Amtrak station.

I have been going to this mechanic for 7 years and while they are not the cheapest shop around town, I know that when I leave there my car has been repaired competently. The owner is very honest and goes out of his way to help his customers.
