Example of Lael's approach: My Subaru was leaking oil. Another shop (okay, a dealership) advised I replace the valve cover gaskets, estimated at $300 American. I asked Lael for an estimate while he was under the hood working on something else. He tightened a couple of bolts on the VCGs and they haven't leaked a drop since. It can't always be that easy, but Lael will look at your >car< (not the manual) and proceed accordingly. If the manual lists a 5-hour job and Lael can do it in 3, he'll bill you for 3 -- and his hourly rate will be lower to start with. Here's a guy who genuinely loves working on import & race cars; he's more interested in making a living than making a killing. Favorite beers: Foster's and Red Stripe. (Just in case you believe in tipping the people who take care of you.)

I've taken my old camry and 540 BMW to Lael's for over a 2 years now. The service is impeccable. Leal has saved my toyota from the bone yard, another shop said the oil leak was a head gasket and lael fixed it with a distributor gasket. Now that he does tires I dont need to go any where else for service.

Lael has been my mechanic for 7 years now. I will never go anywhere else. I punched a hole in my transmission like a gomer on the interstate and continued to drive. Finally when my transmission failed to work due to NO fluid, Lael came to my rescue, towing me home when i was about 60 miles from home and fixing my car for a very reasonable price. Luckily I did not actually burn my transmission and Lael had my car fixed and back on the road in 24 hours replacing my tran pan. Hes a very honest, down-to-earth, nice guy.

These guys KNOW volkswagons. Lael owns several race cars and truly has a passion for the volkswagon brand. they do seem to take their time with the work though...
