We purchased a used, 1988 Southwind Fleetwood Class A motor home and took it in to have it serviced (prev. owner didn't have service record) and asked mechanic to go through it so we would know where we were at with things. We asked him to find and fix an oil leak as well as what appeared to be an antifreeze leak, and to check brakes, shocks, repair a broken hood latch cable, and we provided a new ignition switch that we asked him to replace the old one with, also to check the transmission and tighten what we thought to be loose steering. This mechanic had the motorhome for 3 weeks (this time). When we picked it up, we noticed scratches on the front drivers side bumper/fender area and asked if they might have removed this part to gain access to some other part(s), thinking they may have leaned this against a wall and it may have slid or something. This mechanic denied any and all of this and stated these scratches were there previously. Less than a month later we returned with it because we still had the leaks and the ignition still wouldn't "catch" without working with it awhile. This time, the mechanic had it for 4 (yes, FOUR!) weeks, during which time he replaced the radiator (we authorized), he replaced one of three batteries at a cost of $179.95 (we did NOT authorize and were not consulted on this). When we picked it up the interior lights and outside steps, etc wouldn't work, nor would our cruise control (and the cruise still doesn't to this day!), the ignition still wouldn't "catch", and .... AND we had a broken windshield!!! Turned out the battery cables on the new battery were reversed, causing the steps, lights, etc to not work. He corrected that. He complained about all the wires involved with this battery switching out, and to this day I wonder if that's possibly why our cruise control no longer works. He denied having anything to do with the broken windshield stating that "last time we had complained about scratches on a bumper". When we told him the ignition switch still wasn't working he rudely responded with "Is that all?!". He DID (at no cost to us) put in a new starter cylinoid, which seems to have fixed the ignition switch problem. The dash a/c no longer cooled. He also left grease spots on the newly shampooed carpet. And we still had the oil leak (he had told us from the rear main seal, and that he'd fixed it). We took it elsewhere to be fixed for the third time! I would not recommend this mechanic and hope I don't ever have to request his services again!
