I fell asleep while driving and ran off the road in my new (to me) used Ranger. I noted later that the steering wheel was no longer centered even though the truck continued to track straight. The Ford dealer made a big deal about all of the experience their front end guy had. They lined up the front end and centered the steering wheel. They noted it looked like the steering rack had been recently changed. Well, I didn't know the truck's history so I just filed that away. Their repair didn't last all the way home... the wheel was cocked over again and it seemed to be in a different place every time I drove it. I took it to Yopp's. They also lined it up, noted the nearly new steering rack, but they actually caught the wheel changing its position before they let it go. "Needs a new steering rack", they said. They ordered one and I left for the day, expecting a $450-500 repair. The next day I took it back and let them have at it. After a while, the manager came to me and said they'd found that there were no bushings in the "old" rack. Apparently whoever installed it tightened it up adequately without them; then I knocked things loose when I went off the road. Yopp's charged me for bushings; not a whole rack. I never would have known the difference but I could sure tell when I paid what I owed. They let me out of there for about $100. A less honest shop would have just kept their mouths shut and stuck it to me. This is typical of the dealings I've had with them (and my father before me). Great shops like Yopp's don't grow on trees. Lest you think I only recommend them because they're honest, I've never had one of their repairs not work correctly when they've finished.
