Recently, I had a wheel bearing fail while traveling at about 70 mph. By the time I got stopped, it had apparently ruined the spindle as well. AAA (love 'em) towed me to Colony Tire on a Friday night. They diagnosed the issue Saturday morning but were unable to get the parts needed. Floyd, my contact there, suggested that I allow him to search for a used spindle on Monday as it would be significantly less expensive and as unlikely to fail as a new part. As part of our conversation, I advised him that the wheel cylinder on that was, but I would repair that myself later. He quoted about $400 and three days wait time. On Monday afternoon, he called and said that the car was done and that they had located used wheel assembly including brake drum, shoes, wheel cylinder, bearings in good shape and spindle and just put it all on and that my bill $330. How do you like that? $100 under budget and two days early!
