I own a Mazda Miata, my second one. One of my life's challenges, in addition to finding a hair dresser, is to find a competent and honest repair shop. I have often found the Mazda dealership service department to be very good. I recently moved here and joined the Miata Club and asked a few folks for a recommendation. Two very picky fellows recommended Parks which is 45 minutes away from my house. I took my spotlessly clean car in for repair (valve cover gasket) and oil change. When I took the car home I noticed that one of the wheels was damaged and its tire was cut (1.5 inch gash). There was no dirt around the "injury" so the tire did not rub up against a curb or fall into a pot hole. I reasoned that the damage might have come from a car lift accident. I took the car back to the service manager the next day. We thought about the possibilities and could not come to a definite conclusion. He agreed to talk with his manager. He called me back the same day and offered to repair the wheel and replace the tire. I told him that I knew the tires needed changing in about 3,000 miles and that he did not need to replace the tire. His silence made me smile. I feel very good about this. A dealership service manager helping a customer and a customer helping the service manager. Yes, I'll return to Parks Automotive, even though it's far away from my house. How FUN to write this!
