He prefers cash to checks and may not be able to accept credit cards. It's a small one man shop nestled amongst other shops specializing in auto repairs of various types. I had gone in to have a timing belt changed as part of regular maintenance. After the belt was changed he had found some leaks and a thermostat that was not operating properly that I had already been aware of at the time of the repair. He offered to repair those items, which involved taking the car apart once again, for a reasonable price. It's not a pretty shop but it is functional. He only works on toyotas and knows them well.

I HAD A KNOCKING SOUND IN MY 94 TOYOTA P/U. WORRIED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING SERIOUS, LIKE MAIN BEARINGS OR WHOLE TIMING JOB, THE MECHANIC(D.J.) STUCK HIS EAR TO THE ENGINE AND KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS. IT WOUND UP BEING SOMETHING CHEAP TO FIX.(IT WAS ONLY NEEDING A VALVE ADJUSTMENT)I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THEIR SERVICE AND FRIENDLYNESS.

The owner takes appointments only, so I know that when he is working on my car, he finishes it and is not distracted with other cars. He is very fair on pricing and beats the dealerships labor price considerably. I have had great faith in his repair and he never tries to sell me work that is unneccessary!

He specializes in Toyotas but was willing to work on my 1988 Honda Accord that I had driven from Kansas and stalled every time I came to a complete stop. He had no problem fixing it and even used a couple of old parts he had lying around (at no charge) to save me money. The price was very reasonable--probably a fraction of what a dealer of bigger/fancier repair shop would have charged me. Because he is a one-man show and takes appointments only, it can be hard to get in quickly, but you'll eventually get in. I was going to have him to some more work, but someone hit my and it was totaled. Highly recommended.

I drive 75 miles one way to have my Toyota serviced by Mr. Strand, owner of The Toy Works. His work has always been above average. He has rebuilt 2 engines in my Toyotas, my last 1992 Camry is still going strong with nearly 200,000 miles. All other work on my car has been done in a very professioanl and satisfied manner. I called this shop because it was listed here on Car Talk. Although they advertise they work on Lexus, Honda, and Toyota..."D" has a lot of experience with European cars, and agreed to take a look at my VW Cabrio. It was raining terribly, and I was unable to get my automatic window to roll up. My dealer quoted me an outrageous price, so I tried Toy Works. They got me in immediately, and fixed the car in about 4 hours. They were very courteous, and even showed me the broken part and explained the charges to me. Which, by the way, turned out to be $150 cheaper than my dealer. I am unfortunately a clueless woman when it comes to car, and was uncomfortable getting my car fixed without my boyfriend with me, but these guys were upfront and honest. Looks like my dealer has just lost a customer!

I had a timing belt and water pump replaced on a 1995 Toyota Corolla at a huge savings over the local Toyota dealer. I actually had my own parts and had purchased the wrong water pump which they exchanged without hesitation for the correct one. Great repair shop, although I scheduled the repairs, the drop-off and pick-up was handled by my wife. No attempt to defraud her or talk over her head with mechanical jargon!!
