I've been to this guy twice now with my piece of junk car ('83 Volkswagon Rabbit) and each time he's taken care of a nagging electrical problem (I didn't see anywhere to state this above, but this guy specializes in starters and alternators). Each time I've been in he has realized that I am a poor college student and has made reasonable statements like, "Are you sure you want to pay to get this thing fixed?" And after I tell him yes, he goes ahead and fixes it right the first time. The second problem I had he took care of for free (even after I ate up enough of his time that he could have charged me $50). I think this guy's fair and competent, which is more than you can ask of most mechanics. He's not out to sweet talk you (he never even told me his name; all I got was a business card), so don't expect any bull. Just a straight, (even brutally) honest appraisal of your situation.
