I had purchased a Gibson performance exhaust system for my '05 Honda Element. Unfortunately it was for a front-wheel drive vehicle and mine is 4WD; consequently the tailpipe wouldn't fit and I couldn't finish the installation myself. I knew that Exhaust Specialty had been around forever(well, only 33 years), and it's close to my house- I called them on a Monday morning at 9:00 AM and they were able to get me in at 11:00AM the same day. When I got there I reiterated my situation which I had previously explained over the phone. After they had a look at the tailpipe I wanted to install, they told me that I'd be better off returning the whole thing to the supplier. Since I already had it halfway on, I asked about other options. They explained that they'd have to cut off a heat shield to make room for the muffler and fabricate a new tailpipe, and it would cost $100.00. I said that seemed reasonable to me- I had spent two days trying to install the thing and I was happy to have someone else deal with it. So about 40 minutes later they had it done for $100.00 even. It sounds good and looks good. They told me I could have had the whole system custom made and installed for about $160.00- I'll know better next time and go to Exhaust Specialty first. Just a warning- this is an old-school muffler shop. It's not very tidy and the folks there don't wear nice uniforms. The coffee is not stellar, and the magazine selection is pretty limited. But they do good work, IMO, and they do it quickly at a fair price. They install Flowmaster and Magnaflow performance stuff, but they also seem to do a lot of business just doing regular muffler/exhaust stuff for working people with families. It's kid-friendly attitude-wise, and they do have some small chairs in the waiting area, and they had one copy of "Highlights For Children" but otherwise pretty boring for little ones. It's a two and sometimes three man operation, and the guys have to run in and out answering the phone, etc. So they are not terribly chatty on the phone. Not rude at all- they just have a lot to do! And service is by appointment only. All in all, I'm pleased with my visit and happy with the work that was done, and I give Exhaust Specialty a thumbs-up!
