Mike started this business from a small shop, now it is considerably larger but with still has the considerations of a small and neighborhood style shop. Many of his customers live in the area and have been his customers for a long time. Carl

Very open and honest. Calls and tells you when something else needs to be repaired. Even goes to the junkyard for parts that are in good shape and rebuilt. Prices are reasonable. Very good phone manners.

I took my Ford Taurus to the dealer because they were there and I knew I could not get home with it driving the way it was. They looked it over and quoted me $480 to replace some gizmo that was causing the handbrake to freeze. I asked them to unfreeze it and I would get back to them. The next day I took it in to Unique and Ed looked it over, cleaned the brake cable and I was on my way. Cost? less than $20. I learned that I was not supposed to use the handbrake in the freezing weather...it seems that is a Montana rule...I learned to drive in San Francisco...handbrakes are very useful there! Anyway, that was just one experience with Unique and not the first, I might add!

The first time I used Unique I was towed in from my apartment (new starter needed) and they had it fixed VERY quickly although it appeared they were really busy. The second time I used them I had a timing belt/water pump replaced and the final bill was very close to the estimate and $50 less than the next closest estimate. Very Happy, a return customer for sure.

My car had lost all of its power. I dropped it off and within 40 minutes they had completely checked the ignition system and discovered that my timing was way off. They fixed the problem and the car was ready within one hour of drop off.

Unique Auto is a local gem. I had taken my Mazda to two other places, including the dealer, who told me I needed a $289 repair. Unique located the problem and fixed it with a wire tie, for free. The mechanic sat in the car with me after a test drive and explained in an accessible, knowledgeable, non-condescending way what had been going on. I tried to pay them for their time and the very valuable wire tie, but Angie, the shop manager, actually refused payment, knowing I had already paid other shops to look at it. I will definitely be going back the next time the car needs service, and recommending their shop to others.

I chose to go here to have my check engine light inspected because of the reviews on this page, despite some information to the contrary from my dad's co-worker. I wish I had listened to her instead of these reviews because I had the exact same experience as she did. First, after they "fixed" the problem indicated by the computer code, my light came back on the next time I drove it. Then, because I hadn't particularly liked the way they talked to me in the first place, I decided to take it to another shop instead. The mechanic at the second shop actually got on the ground and physically looked at my car and discovered that the part that Unique had just put in wasn't securely attached and that was why the light had come back on. So not only did they do unsatisfactory work, they missed a few worn out belts that needed replacing. This is the same as my dad's co-worker experienced. I would not recommend this place.
