I purchased a 1993 Mercedes 400E from a private party 2 plus years ago. The car had 98,000 miles and appeared to be in terrific shape (body, interior, engine, trunk all clean). I paid Import Specialists $75 for a routine inspection before the purchase and they confirmed the car was in good shape. I have put another 12,000 miles on the car and it performs like new. I always take it back to Import Specialists for routine maintenance, oil changes, and inspections. I also purchased a 1999 Land Rover Discovery II from a local dealer (not a Land Rover dealer) 2 years ago. That car had 60,000 miles and seemed great. Within the 90 day warranty period the car developed an engine problem that appeared to be like it was wasn't firing correctly and a dash light came on indicating the need for service. The dealer couldn't find/fix the problem, so I took it to Import Specialists where they diagnosed the problem as a faulty head gasket. The dealer paid for the repairs and the Rover has run fine ever since. They specialize in BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar and Land Rover. I'm not sure if they work on other foreign or domestic makes, but they sure know what they are doing with Mercedes and Land Rovers.

Like any new BMW owner, I took my X5 to the dealership for the first two years I owned it - in spite of the fact that the service was terrible and the people I had to deal with were often morons. Eventually, I realized I was the real moron for continuing to put up with their crap, so I looked for another place to service it. I discovered that many of the service providers don't "do" BMWs. After finally discovering Import Specialities, I was hooked after the first visit. They did twice as much work for half the price as the dealership - and without ANY hassle. If you want a loaner, you do need to make arrangements in advance, but they are very receptive. They have opened early and stayed late to work with my schedule. I love these guys.
