Walt and his staff are scrupulously honest about their findings. I saw a customer complain about Walt's recommendations following an unsuccessful state inspection. Walt said, "Look, we won't pass it - if you don't want to fix it take it to Joe Schlock down the street. They'll probably pass you if your car is washed."

I've been taking my cars to Walts for nearly 20 years, which is kind of unusual since I live in Maryland and Walts is in Missouri. However, I used to live there and still visit once a year, so if circumstances allow, I plan my trip so I get scheduled work done at Walts. They made a believer out of me when they rebuilt my 1972 VW SuperBeetle's engine. It became the peppiest Beetle I'd ever been in. Since getting my 1987 VW Jetta, I've had a lot of the work on it done at Walts. They save me a bundle based on what it would cost me locally. For example, I was quoted $800-850 for an air conditioning repair. Walts did it for less than half! Walts really stands behind their work. And they seem to go out of their way to find a less expensive used part it that will do the job just as well. Also, if something doesn't need replacing, they won't. On the other hand, they don't believe in just fixing the symptom if that isn't really going to solve the problem. One of the reasons I go to Walts is that they really know Volkwagons. They have fixed problems that others couldn't. If they weren't that good, why would I drive 1000 miles to take my car there?

Walt's always does the work well and keeps my budget (grad student working at a public library) in mind when they do even necessary work on my '87 GTI. Walt is a great guy and his mechanics are some of the most intelligent and competent in the business. They keep my GTI with 214,000 miles (no overhauls) running strong. It never fails to start for me even at 8 degrees above zero! Thanks guys!!!
