I've always preferred to take my cars to the small auto shops (1 to 3 mechanics). There's the personal relationship that you build with the mechanics in the shop and they tend to watch for potential problems when they're doing general repairs and maintenance. (Hey, if it's on the hoist for an oil change...then why not look around for leaking break lines, loose clamps, etc.) My first experience with these guys came about when they first opened their doors many years ago. The car I was driving at the time (an AMC...aka Almost a Car) wouldn't start after gassing up at a local gas spot. I had it towed to Broadway and -- based on that experience and many pleasant experiences since -- they have become MY mechanic. From the mundane to the esoteric, Broadway Auto Tech has maintained and serviced a number of problems. But, it's the little things that endear me to them. For example, one afternoon while driving 60mph down the freeway I came upon a cast-iron wieghted sign post standing in the middle of the road. I didn't see it in time to miss it (because the driver in front of me swerved around it at the last minute) and drove right over the post. As I heard it bounce and slam along the bottom of my car I had visions of broken- everything. My next stop was at the Broadway shop where they immediately put the car up on the hoist to assess the damage. Surprisingly, there was only a dent and ding here and there and I was sent on my way.
