Try not to call this guy too much. I need himn to have some time to work on my vehicles. I got three estimates on a clutch. His was the best price. He replaced a fuel pump for less than I could by the part. I've been going to him since 1981, I don't shop around anymo

I heard about Mike when I had to decide whether to give up on my old VW squareback (that I'd bought under the illusion it had a rebuilt engine). He rebuilt the engine for $400 (this was about 1980) and I drove it for years. At that time he operated solo out of a little garage at the back of a vacant lot. Even with the unreasonably low prices, he made enough to build a bigger concrete block building right up on the street. Once or twice I got mad at him and went somewhere else. That didn't last long because they charged three times as much and didn't do any better by my car. (You understand these were highly recommended places.) also interesting conversation. He has a M.A. in psychology. The only complaints I have are (1) he only does VW's, which means while I lived in Mpls. I could only buy VW's, and (2) he didn't move north and I still haven't found anybody comparable.

Mike doesnt have an answering machine - or voicemail. Sometimes the phone just rings and rings and rings. He's a lovely man though - and I drive from another city to have him work on my car - hes reasonable - honest and reliable...!

Fantastic, honest, cheap, mechanic. Best in the cites, for sure, and probably the best in the midwest. I bought my 1990 Fox from him sight unseen, and it's been running for 5 years with only minor repair work. He rebuilt the enitre engine, and only charged be for the parts and labor that he put into the car as the previous owner had donated it to the shop in non-functioning order as parts car rather than pay for the massive repairs it required. My Fox isn't a beautiful car, but it's a trooper and a total bargain. One of the only repairs I've needed for the car was a new starter, and when I called him stranded at work, he came right over and pull-started it for me. Always goes the extra mile, unbelievably low prices. All my next cars will be VWs, because I can't give him up.

Mike is great! I've been "taken for a ride" by mechanics all over the Twin Cities and I am happy to have finally found an HONEST, COMPETENT, and REASONABLE mechanic. If you have a VW that needs work, you would be a fool to go anywhere else. He replaced my clutch for me for a VERY reasonable price. I have been to him twice and have been very satisfied with the work he has done for me. Also, he is great about getting you in pretty fast. It's refreshing to have found a mechanic who does such fine work for such reasonable prices! Also, hi-five to the Car Talk guys for their show and for having a great place like this on their website so we can review mechanics!

I recently visited Mike and found him but looking on the cartalk website for mechanics. I found him completely honest and had a good experience when he worked on my car. The cost was very good and he worked on it while I waited. I think I just found my new mechanic. I would recommend him to anyone who has a volkwagen!

I was impressed. Two days before a holiday weekend I showed up at his shop with a bad tranny and a used replacement tranny from a junkyard- most shops would have sent me packing...Not only did he have it done the next day, but the bill was under $200!

Mike does great work for a reasonable price. I recommend to all of my VW-owning friends!

Have been bringing my '96 Jetta to Mike for 2-3 years; Mike has always been good at: 1) being realistic at scheduling a time for the repair and, 2) fixing my car for a very reasonable price (on occasion, I price shop and Mike has always been the cheapest). I recommend all of my VW-owning friends to him.

Mike's a good guy. As a woman, I normally expect to be treated as if I have no knowledge. He is super great and makes sure that I understand what needs to be done and the potential cost and circumstance.
