One of the few drawbacks of moving to the Seattle area from Detroit is that I wasn't able to take our Volvo mechanic with us. Vladimir Jarant runs a small shop (he works with only one other mechanic as all the other mechanics that he has employed were doing unnecessary repairs, so he had to fire them). Positive word of mouth advertising is all this guy needs. In fact, you need to schedule non-emergency work one or two weeks ahead as he is so busy. Once we discovered his shop, we remained faithfull customers for the seven years we lived in Detroit. Once we brought him our 14 year old Volvo 240 and told him that we wanted to make it safe and dependable for city driving but we didn't want to spend more than $250. He tuned it up, installed new brakes and generally worked his magic on the car. It never went to the shop again except for oil changes for the next two years. Finally, when we moved away, we gave the car to charity and it was still running great. Vladimir's motto for his shop is,"A place where the search for a good volvo mechanic ends." He really lived up to that motto.

We found Vald through the mechanic's file. He and his wife have been terrific. He is meticulous and the price is always very reasonable. The only drawback is that he runs a solo shop working only on Volvos and he has a great reputation in the area. So sometimes there can be a wait to get an appointment. We are a military family moving soon and will sorely miss the great service and kind interactions.
