I was shopping for a new mechanic and Dodd's was recommended. When I went into the shop, Jerry was on the phone with a customer and told her that the repairs she wanted on her car would not fix the problem and recommended a less expensive fix instead. Then told another customer that the repair they had done previously didn't fix the problem and Dodd's would repair the problem at no extra cost. Honesty, integrity and a technically competent shop that gets the job done and stand behind their work is hard to find but there it is at Dodd's Automotive.

Unreasonable labor rates. Sold unneeded items. Took my good running ole Toyota p/u w/22re motor for tune up prior to emission testing. It had been sitting for over a year, started right up, ran well heading to Dodd's shop. They replaced a rotor and cap with no/none zero pitting, charged $8 ea for exact plugs that were in it. You could not tell which were the pulled or new. Let's assume it took 3hrs for a seasoned mech to do it, which is way generous. That's $70 hr for the $210 labor charge. When I gagged/coughed at hearing the total they gave me 2 free oil change coupons. Lastly they suggested an injector and throttle b'fly cleaning, which may or may not have been necessary. No evidence on any of the clamp screws that throttle body was ever accessed and I'd had the injectors cleaned and patterned a couple years ago but I let em do it anyway. MY BAD. While I'm sure they are competent to do most work, I believe I was sold unneeded items and charged twice for items that should have been included in invoiced 'job' descriptions. I would NOT use them again for anything I could do myself. I've been working on this fine little truck since new; replaced starters, alternators, timing chain, clutch, many brake jobs and know what it takes. I should have made time to continue doing just that.

What a great experience. I was referred by another very well respected automotive mechanic shop in the area when they weren't able to fit me in. I was looking at a used car for our daughter and had Dodds do the checkup. Not only were they able to fit me in with my very narrow time constraint, they did a very detailed inspection and had it done within the hour. They walked me through what they'd found on the phone (I was in Seattle) and gave me a very honest opinion and realistic quote for the work that would be needed. In addition to all of the above, they refused to charge me anything for their work! I really couldn't believe it. Though we decided against that particular vehicle, I will definitely keep Dodds in my phone as a "go-to" shop for the Tacoma area and would recommend them without reservation. A great find.
