I have to agree that Ball Auto is a great neighborhood establishment. They are awesome mechanics and are always honest and straight-forward. oftentimes their repairs and regular maintenance (ie-oil changes) cost more than a chain; however, your business helps to support honest people that have a vested interest in their community. I used to live right next door to their shop (well, almost) and I always bought my gas there. It is only a about .50 more per fillup and it's full service, which means my wife never had to get out in the rain and we had always had someone to talk to. If you get a chance, ask to take a look inside their storage facility. Talk about museum! BTW, Derrick is Kirk's son-in-law. Ball Auto will be around for a while!

This place rocks. It was strongly recommended to me by 2 people. I have been using them for 2.5 years. I have nothing bad to say (believe me, I would if there was something to say). They're great at discussing things, are willing to tell you if something has to be fixed vs. not, and are pretty quick (my car's never been in the shop more than a day, but it's usually most of the day). I'm not terribly knowledgeable about cars, but they've never tried to do anything deceptive. These are just all-around nice, honest people. It's now in the 2nd generation of the family although the first generation are there at times, too. I've never had a problem with a repair they've done (I have a 13-year old car - there have only been a few things, including brakes). I'm not really in a position to compare their prices - they seem reasonable, especially since they do very good work.
