I have a 1973 SuperBeetle (yellow!). When I bought it, I had a pre-purchase inspection done. They estimated the car needed about $500 worth of work for various things that needed doing (new brakes, new muffler, etc. etc.). Right after I bought the car, the alternator went out (nothing electrical was on the inspection report, needless to say). Had the car towed to a nearby Volkswagen place, had the alternator replaced. Generator light still kept coming on. When I called them they told me the generator would have to be replaced, for another $500 or so. I told them I wanted a second opinion and got a recommendation from a friend for the Import Doctors. They fixed the electrical problem by replacing a wire, rather than the whole generator, put in brand new brakes, repaired rather than replaced the German stainless steel muffler ("it just has a little hole -- we can weld that"), all for $380, instead of the $1000 I was afraid the whole mess was going to cost. I would never have my car worked on anywhere else. Also got a great recommendation from them for a bodywork shop when my car was broken into and beat up pretty bad.

I needed my oxygen sensor replaced on my honda and they saved me 100 dollars compared to other estimates, and the quote for my next maintainence is well below any other quote I have received. My service was done in the time I expected and for the exact price I was quoted on the phone. They never haggled me, and I was very happy with the service. The shop is no thrills, but for the price and quality of the service, it is more then worth it.

These guys are pretty no-frills, but they are cheap, fast, and reliable. I've had pretty much all the work done on my car at this place and never had a problem with it.

I've been taking my 1990 Jetta to the Import Doctors for the 8 years I've had it, and I'm a very happy customer. Except for a little bit of trouble diagnosing a coolant problem recently, the quality and competence have been top-notch. On that one occasion, they were quick to fix the problem at their own cost, without a hassle. With quality mechanics like this in my back pocket, it's far cheaper to keep my old car running than make payments and insurance on a new one.

I would expect their Belltown location to cause their prices to be higher than others, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm often surprised that the costs aren't higher. With quality mechanics like this in my back pocket, it's far cheaper to keep my old car running than make payments and insurance on a new one.

My wife and I have been going to the Import Doctor it seems like forever. Now with our VW Vanagon and our Subaru Forester, formerly with a VW Rabbit. The shop rate is standard. The only mechanic is the owner: the person that you talk to is the person who works on your car. Very, very important. The work is guaranteed in that informal way that guarantees used to work: you know the mechanic and you trust him and he won't charge you if he doesn't fix it. But this is all understood in a way that a lot of "paper work" at a dealership doesn'tcover. At least four of our friends now are very satisfied customers of Jim at the Import Doctor. The shop is located in downtown Seattle about 2 miles from our house.

I have been taking cars to Import Doctors for about 15 years. They are part of the family now. I am thinking about buying an actual new car but am actually having separation anxiety about not having them take care of my car. I also have to note that Jim and now Marco are doing a great job carrying on Mike's legacy for good fair service and a caring attitude.

Even though they've moved to 6th Ave South (block west of new BMW dealer), they're still well located for public transit. They are friendly, apparently honest and good mechanics. The charges were below (though not a great deal below) Lexus of Seattle, but they did at least as well, more quickly and right the first time . . . I didn't have to go back, as with the dealer's service.
