The best independent BMW shop in Richmond. Craig is the mechanic working the reception desk. Julian is another guy at the desk, though he is not mechanically inclined. However he is an extremely decent guy. The prices are only a bit lower then at the dealer. But the service is good and they have everything in stock (unlike the dealer). Their parts are also cheaper, although they do _not_ have BMWCCA (Car Club) discounts. They do offer free rides to work when you leave your car with them for repairs.

Craig and Julian have taken care of my wife's '89 735i from the time we moved to Richmond until we sold the car to our neighbor (1994-2000). We highly recommended Twin Star to the new owner(a corporate pilot and very involved in the maintenance) and he is using Twin Star. My wife has leased a new 540 and all maintenance is included in the lease...too bad, we will miss Twin Star. In fact, they are a good reason to buy a BMW rather than lease (for the out- of-warranty work!!)

They have worked on 2 Saabs for me. One was very old and they always let me know if they thought the car was worth having the work I wanted done. They also have recommended other shops if they thought the work could be done as well and cheaper (muffler work for example). They always have the work done when they say they will and they are always very nice.

I would like to thank everyone for their recommendation of Twin Star. I would also like to update our address to 4123 West Broad Street, and that the people to ask for would be myself James and Ken. Our phone number is (804) 353-9125.

I'm a beginning shadetree BMW mechanic. I've had TwinStar work on anything that I think is over my head. James knows I do a lot of my own work, and he always has advice when I ask questions or ask about parts. They are always courteous, on time, and fixed right!

I've taken every one of the 4 SAABs I've owned to these guys, and they've usually done a good job. They're always pleasant and polite, and will explain the problems to you if asked. They've always been honest and I've never felt like they were pushing unnecessary work on me. A couple of issues I've had: (1) they've sent me to the dealership almost every time I've had a major problem (transmission work, electronic problem). I really appreciated their honesty in telling me they could not do the work, but it's still a hassle. Part of the issue is that they may no longer have a SAAB expert. Also, (2) they'll charge you a diagnostic fee even if they can't fix the problem. Then again, maybe that's a standard industry practice.

I have gone to them out of lack of any other BMW specialist. They were less expensive than the dealership and I was on a budget. I also has work done on my SAAB there as well. Neither car was purchased new by me and both nickle and dimed me to death. The last repair they did on my BMW was not done properly and the serpentine belt came off and did damage to the AC Compressor, hoses, and other belts. I can't prove it was shoddy workmanship but they were the last to touch the car and this item was "repaired" by them and then failed months later. I took it to a different shop as they have lost my faith. The mechanics have a superior air about them as well. Can't imagine a lady getting along well even though the owner's daughter seems to run the place for the most part. I am also suspect that they serviced my transmission without doing the flush twice as promised. The fluid was still dirty.....not happy.
