Ray is a gifted politician but choses to express his stately opinions from the comfortable surroundings of his shop. He is still one of those real "good 'ole boys". An honest Joe! Over 20 years, he has taken care of entire neighborhoods auto cares, fleet of trucks and vans for small companies and too many friends to try and count. In the mid-eighties, I was part owner of a multi-flavored popcorn establishment and we had 6 locations around the city that needed daily deliveries of their customers favorite flavor of the day. One of trucks was always being repaired for a "bad clutch". One day Ray said "your driver lets his foot ride or rest on the clutch when not in use" and this was his message to us back at the warehouse. When the driver was asked if this was the case, he replied with questioning eyes & expressions "How'd he know dat?" We kept the driver, changed the lazy foot and never another clutch problem.

I consulted the mechanics files to find a shop and was impressed by all of the great comments for Ray Van Cleave. Everyone was right! Ray is an honest, knowledgeable, and straight forward mechanic, a true gentleman. When I brought the car in he attentively listened to me discuss the problems with the car and then immediately opened up the hood to try and diagnose the issue; he didn't even mind it when I was looking over his shoulder while he was working. He was patient with all of my questions and happy to educate me on his thought process as he was examining the engine. Being female, I was impressed by his demeanor and felt he treated me like any other customer. I was happy to leave the car at the shop to give Ray and his assistant more time to investigate and identify the problem. He wants to fix the right problem and not lead you on a crazy chase. They fixed the problem and the car has been running great ever since! In an industry that often gets a bad reputation Ray Van Cleave is a brilliant example of what a great auto mechanic is like: competent, honest, receptive, attentive and fair.

I searched the mechanic files and narrowed it down to two choices, with Van Cleave being the first. Wow! Friendly service, competent, goes beyond the expectations. I felt very well taken care of and almost wish I had more cars to bring them.

The best experience I have ever had dealing with auto mechanics. Ray is competent, honest, and helpful. Strongly recommended.

I worked as a mechanic about 30 years ago in Miami. There are so many mechanics out there who seem much more interested in padding their bills, nickel and diming you to death, rather than fixing cars at a fair price. Ray is very different type of mechanic, friendly, easy going, fairly priced and just overall, a very competent mechanic. He changed our timing belt, pulley, serpentine belt, upper/lower radiator hoses and water pump for a few hundred less than the next best quoted shop. Also, I told him I had bought a new power steering pump (the old one was leaking and I was planning on changing it out) I asked him if he would change it out and how much that would cost? He said I'm taking off the old one and I'll just put on the new one for you for free!! FREE! Then, because it was a rebuilt pump it didn't work right after a day or two. So I brought him a new one and he installed that one at no cost...wow! So awesome! I would recommend Ray wholeheartedly. It's a bit hard to find his small shop (no fancy signs) and he seems to be a cat lover, but it's worth it. Go see him and I think you will really like him, we did.
