I highly recommend Al, especially to a woman who knows little about things mechanical. I've been taking my cars to him for 15 years. Al even went so far as to go with me to purchase my last car (a used Nissan 400SX) so he could (a) check the car out for mechanical problems, and (b) negotiate the sales price for me. That was a year and a half ago, and I've had NO mechanical problems with the car. I've been told thatI got a really good deal on the purchase price.

He may not be the cheapest mechanic in Austin but he is always honest and does excellent work. He'll tell you if it doesn't need to be fixed or if it can be done more cheaply or by yourself.

This shop is in Houston, TX. Some of the reviewers mistakenly reviewed a shop in Austin here. Southwest Auto in HOUSTION, is fantastic. They diagnose and give you priority about urgency of repair. Johnny owns and runs the garage. Henrik is a Swedish guy who actually worked at the Volvo factory in Gothenburg Sweden when he was younger. He works on older (rear-drive) cars and Johnny works on newer. Both are incredibly competent and fair. My 92 245 runs great thanks to them and I'd recommend their service to any and ALL Volvo owners. I just wish they could work on other makes but, as it is, they have all the work they need just with Volvos. Don't waste your time or money elsewhere.

I am a biased customer because I have been doing business with Southwest Automotive for many years. You always get the best advice there. We had one Volvo go 239K miles and another go 265K miles, in spite of less than the best care by the drivers. We have two left that will get at least those mileages. On a few occasions Johnny has worked on my Saab and proved that he has extraordinary mechanical skills. Their business model to retain customers for the long haul and they have been very successful.
