Herbie does not fix it if it is not broke. If you ask him, say, to check the brakes and they are OK, there is no charge even though he pulled all four wheels to look. He will tell you up front what the various options are and what they cost. You can then make your own decision. If you want to cart the vehicle off, OK. He does not have to get greedy as he has all the work he and two to three other mechanics can handle. Also a plus for me, he is a Christian.

This past weekend, I took my '93 Plymouth Grand Voyager to Round Rock Muffler & Auto for the first time (for some brake work) and had a great experience. Herb, was able to get me in right away and completed the job within 3 hours. He only fixed what needed fixing. How refreshing! He has a sign in the waiting area that says something like "We may not be the cheapest, but the other guys know what their repair work is worth" - but I'd say he probably *is* cheaper if you weigh in the fact that he doesn't "fix" stuff that doesn't need fixing (not to mention the time saved from having it done right the first time). I had such a good experience that I took my beat-up '91 Nissan Sentra late yesterday for brake & muffler work. I picked it up today and immediately noticed that something was wrong - the engine wasn't firing right. Herb quickly located the problem and found out that it was because the day before I had used that "Engine Brite" stuff and a little water got in the spark plug area. He dried it up and put some stuff on the plug wires and it fixed the problem (no charge). Mind you, I was on my lunch hour when I picked it up and he still had me out of there with time to spare. Pretty cool! I'm a customer for life!

Herbie Prewitt is an Ex Mr. Goodwrench mechanic. He is friendly, honest, and dependable. I have been taking all my vehicles to him for about 18 years, and he has not let me down once. He will fix it right the first time, doesn't do any unnecessary repairs, stands behind his work, and will personally give you a ride if you have to leave your vehicle. 99.9 percent of repairs are completed the same day. He specializes in exhaust systems, brake systems, electrical systems, and AC sytems, but can handle all major repairs too, such as an engine overhaul, or transmission rebuild. I wouldn't think of trusting my car or truck to anyone else in Round Rock, Tx.........Home of Dell Computer.

I have had dealings on several different cars for many years and have had nothing but great experience with Herbie. This is one shop in this area that I am completely comfortable with sending my wife and my 79 year old mother in law as I do not have to worry about the honesty factor at all. I have recommended many friends to Round Rock Muffler and will do so in the future.

I recently had my engine die on a '93 Honda Civic. I had it towed into Round Rock Muffler & Automotive (whom I have used in the past) to see how much it would be to fix the problem. They were completely honest with me and said that the engine was entirely dead and would need to be replaced. They recommended on a car that was as old as mine was that this might not be worth the money. They then let me keep my old car at their shop for several days until I could find someone to buy it and come pick it up from them. The cost for this engine diagnosis and a week's worth of storing my car? $0!!! These guys are the best!

Great shop. I found them through the Car Talk files and took both my Mazda and Honda there for 3 years before moving away. I highly recommend them. Multiple times they fixed what could have been billed at a really high rate for extremely reasonable prices including brakes and A/C. They are willing to explain the problem and recommend the best solution - even if it means not a lot of money for them. It's great to trust your mechanic won't do unnecessary work on your car.

This was my first visit to the shop. I bought a second-hand high performance car but it was too loud (in part) because the resonators had been removed. The techs discussed it with me and gave me reasonable options. Nathan put high-quality resonators on and took extra time to make sure that the dual exhausts lined up and were visually even. The Service Writer (Connie?) was very personable as well. Good service, extra care, and attention to detail should always be commended. Thank you.
