When we moved to Texas, I wanted to take my mechanic with me. But she wouldn't leave her family, darn the luck. Finding another Karen was not going to be easy. It only took about five years. The first time I went to Duffy's and met the owner, Bryan, was when my little black car got towed to his shop after my radiator blew apart on the highway. Not the best time to have to find a mechanic, right? I had been to half the shops in town for random service items (small things like starters and alignments and such) and found either incompetence, high prices, condescending attitudes or all three. Bryan came recommended by a good friend so I figured it couldn't end worse than most of those other automotive relationships. That was over five years ago. He and his people are outstanding. I call or stop by, and he or Gertie always have a minute to say hello or five minutes to talk about the latest vehicular nonsense I encounter. I generally have an idea of what the problem may be and Bryan always listens, checks and confirms or modifies what I thought. He will tell me about parts based on pricing and I long ago learned to trust him enough to say, "Whatever part you would use on your car (new or rebuilt) is what is best for my car." He's never steered me wrong, from tires to oil changes to struts. We've just recently bought a new-to-us car, and Bryan and his team will take excellent care of it, too.

Our son is a college student in Denton and his 2002 Mazda truck developed a serious antifreeze leak on a Saturday night. Taking his truck to Duffy's on Monday, they told him that their technician wasn't in at the moment but they would call my boy "today" and let him know what/how much, etc. and it might be tomorrow when they called. He went to work and then to class. That afternoon, however, they called telling him that the radiator hose was the source of the leak and that antifreeze had dripped onto his starter as well (he'd had problems starting the truck recently) and that they might have to replace it as well. On Tuesday, they called; truck was ready. They replaced the hose, refilled the radiator, and, oh, by the way, we looked at the starter, cleaned it off and it'll be okay. Since he's a college kid and pretty far from home, here was the chance to rook this guy but they were honest, they were prompt, they were great. If you're on the hunt for a reliable, friendly garage, you need to check these guys out. They are fantastic.
