I have been to 8 mechanics in Southern Rhode Island in the past 5 years, this is a report based on that information. Ashaway Service Center is very good. I had a blown break line in my truck. Another service station wanted $1000 to fix it, the other station wanted to replace every rusty part in the brake system. ASC did it for $220, including replacing only critically bad parts. They do only what needs to be done and try to save you some money. They have worked on 2 of my cars so far and seem to be pretty competent and reliable. I will continue to use them.

This is a lesson for those who are too cheap to have the shop do an oil change. I tried to save a couple bucks, alright maybe $15 or so, by doing my own oil changes. I obviously don't have a lift, which is O.K. because my 1998 Subura Outback doesn't need to be jacked up to change the oil and filter. The problem is, you don't see what's going on under the car, unless you go under...thus the problem.. the axle sleeves on my Subaru dryed out and allowed years of salt sand etc into the axle joints etc, and it ruined the axles prematurely... If I had been taken the car for professional service, like at Ashaway Service Center, they would of seen this problem and fixed it for about an hours labor and the price of the rubber zip on jackets... instead the axles had to be replaced for several hundred dollars... so the $15 bucks I saved really cost me a lot more, not to mention the mess in my garage, trips to the recycle center with the resulting mess in my car, trips to Walmart to buy filters and oil and the oil under my fingernails etc..

Wayne Moore is the most honest and competent mechanic I've ever met along with his main guy, Dave. They have repaired and maintained our Toyota and Volkswagen Jetta for many years and have saved us a small fortune by only fixing what's necessary. What's also amazing, is they can actually fix things and don't try to just replace them as a dealer would. Wayne has given us rides home, always calls with estimates and has personally babied our diesel Jetta so it would pass inspection. I recommend Ashaway Service Center to anyone!

There's nothing worse than having your vehicle breakdown when you're far from both home and your favorite mechanic. That's just what happened to me! While on vacation in RI, the fuel pump on my truck died. After speaking to my mechanic (who also happens to be a close friend so I usually get the 'Friends & Family price) I had to find somebody in the Westerly area and quick! Good fortune led me to Wayne and the Ashaway Service center. Not only did Wayne and his guys get me my truck back sooner than anyone else I called but his estimate was dead-on and the price was exactly what my buddy back home said he'd charge me. I have absolutely no hesitation telling you that Wayne and Ashaway Service Center are that incredibly rare gem- An honest, competent mechanic who won't take advantage of even a dopey tourist like me! Thanks again Wayne!
