My first experience with this place was very positive. I went in to have my rear hatchback door latch fixed. They investigated it and said all it really needed was lubricant, which they then applied, and now it appears to work fine. So I'm happy that the problem was fixed. But I am AMAZED that they refused to accept payment for this, because they said they didn't really do any work. All I know is, I didn't do any work, the door was broken. They don't do any work and everything is back in working order. They certainly know how to make a good first impression!

Bob was a mechanic at Nissan for 12 years. He is smart, able to accurateley analyze the problem. Once I took an old Datsun 210 (not even a 210"B"!) to him. I said it wouldn't go into 2nd. he said "Really? Let's give it a spin." He drives. First gear fine. Then he grabs the shift, slams it with gusto into second. "Looks OK to me," he says, with a wink. Turns out the car needed this rough treatment first shift in the morning, then it was fine all day. No charge. Smart and honest.

This is what I wrote to my uncle to tell him of the whole ordeal: My car has been un-driveable since October, or rather, HAD been un-driveable until TODAY!!(january 24) Yeeehaw. I knew that the left front wheel bearing had to be replaced and that one of the outer tie rods (didn't write down which one) was also going, and that once all that work was done I'd need an alignment. I knew this because when I had my muffler replaced in Maine (for $63)(as opposed to the $170 I was charged in Philadelphia the last time I needed it) they told me this would need to be done too. They said that it would cost me $226 to do the wheel work. I didn't have it. And, very shortly after that, I didn't have a car! I was nervous about finding a mechanic here because it's so hard to find people that don't crazy overcharge you. I figured surely someone at my gym would be able to help me out on that search but everyone who I asked (at my typical south philly gym) said they knew of someone but never remembered to bring me the number. Finally--after 4 months of waiting to have the spare $$ to fix it--I needed to find one this weekend. So I typed in "how do I find a trustworthy mechanic" into my internet search engine. I wound up jumping from site to site when I stumbled on one guy who said he was listed on the Car Talk website. So I went there and found several "honest" mechanics (on their Mechan-X Files page). I was so happy. I found one guy who was less than a block from my gym who had wonderful reviews from many people and I called him right away (saturday 5pm) leaving a message with my info and problem. I was fully prepared to call him again on monday, but he beat me to it and called first thing. Told me to come by "later today or early tomorrow" and drop it off so he could look at it. I left it there after I went to the gym and he called me first thing today and said (hmmm didn't understand a lot of it, but...) that it wasn't the wheel bearing, exactly, that something else needed to be done (which involved something being "pressed"), and that it wasn't one of the outer tie rods that needed to be replaced, it was both of them. He said also that there was a lot of play on the left tire and that one of the tie rods was so bad it looked dangerous to drive on (he actually didn't tell me that until after I had paid for everything and was leaving). He explained each thing very clearly and said what every part of it would cost--including the labor for each thing. It added up to $378. and it was ready by noon. seemed pretty good to me. I know if I took it to Pep Boys they would have charged me twice that.

Bob and Jason Capone are exceptionally considerate, knowledgeable people. They have helped me out of a jam more than once. I recommend them without hesitation to anyone.

I was referred to Foreign Fix through a friend, who had nothing but great things to say about the owner/super mechanic Bob. I was having trouble with my car and 2 other shops told me that I needed a new engine, but I just didn't believe it. I took it to Foreign Fix and explained the problem to Bob. He walked over to the car with a smooth, confident attitude and checked it out and said it was bad wiring. This smooth, genius of a man was very honest with. Watching Bob in action was like watching James Bond in Golden Eye. He gives off a confidence that you know he's going to get the job done. To me Bob is the James BOnd of the mechanic world!!.

These are by far the best car people I have ever dealt with. They are honest, hard-working, good people whom you can trust with your car. I took my car in with "engine- trouble." After explaining to me the problem with my car, Bob told me how he had searched everywhere for the parts that I needed. It demonstrated to me that he was committed to finding the best part for my needs with the least cost to me as a customer. He is willing to go that "extra mile." I was almost to the point of thinking about buying a new car; however, after seeing how nicely my car is running after giving it to them, I am convinced that my car will last me for quite a while longer. I called Bob about how well my car was running and he told me that often he does some extra work on the car but tries to be consistent with cost. I won't consider taking my car to anyone else. Thanks! You guys are the best!
