This was one of those odd situations where I had to do everything remotely. The Subaru I just bought had a problem with the airbag system and the dealer I bought the car from was in a different city but willing to work with me and Hawthorne to make things right. I live in Fort Worth, Texas and only drop the Subaru off at their shop in Portland after reading their reviews on MechanX File. Not only did Terica at Hawthorne take care of my questions via many emails but explained what need work to me and the dealer in Salt Lake. I could write a book about the service but they are a definite go to place for both of my daugthers attending college in Portland.

They were recommended to me by a life long Portland resident as "good but expensive." I found them to be excellent but reasonably priced. How often do you take a car in for work and come out spending much less than you anticipated?

The folks at this shop go well beyond what most shops do in terms of education and communication. They always explain what they did and why. They also always explain what they decided not to do and why. They are the only shop I've ever really felt listens to me and takes me seriously. They even figured out what the funny noise was coming from my Honda Civic and explained that I could have it fixed at great expense or just get used to it and save the money. And they charged me nothing after I decided just to live with it. They are more expensive than most places. However, each time I inquire with other shops I miss the amiable professionalism of this one and come back. I think I've gotten hooked at this point.

We moved 20 miles away a few years ago, but still bring our cars to Hawthorne for service. The cost may seem high at first, but the reliability and honesty factors make the prices entirely reasonable. They do great work and give you a straight story. They are also environmentally responsible.

They were just great! Since I moved to the area 2 years ago I have struggled to find a good shop. These folks did quality work even fixing some problems past mechanics claimed they repaired. Surely, they have found a new loyal customer.
