I first tried this shop about seventeen years ago when they quoted me one of the least expensive prices for a rebuilt automatic transmission on my '69 Dodge Dart. The price they quoted was a little more than a third(!) of the price quoted by the transmission chain I originally consulted. The rebuilt transmission I bought worked perfectly until long after I sold the car to a friend a couple of years later. About four years ago, someone at a quick lube shop told me that there was a problem with my transmission that he had identifed when replacing the fluid. I brought my '86 Chevy Nova to Automatic Transmission Service to be checked out. The mechanic was apologetic that he could not find a problem. No charge! The Chevy Nova transmission continued to work flawlessly at least until I sold it last year.

These guys have gotta be the "Click & Clack" of Portland. The shop is owned by two brothers, & their sister runs the office! Very knowledgeable, & willing to take the time to explain what the problem is & alternatives for fixing it. They rebuilt the transmission on my Jeep & a week or so later I was noticing a "downclunk" very intermittently; they took the vehicle back in, no hassles at all, & fixed the problem. On top of that, the brother who lives in Vancouver switched vehicles with me, gave me his vehicle for the day & drove my Jeep to his shop & back when I needed the extra repair, so that I wouldn't have to take the extra time off of work to drive to Portland. Its rare to find that kind of personal service these days! I highly recommend them.

Dave at Automatic Transmission was extremely helpful. I came in with some transmission problems. He first checked some things while I was there and was great at explaining what he was doing. He kept the car overnight and deduced that the computer was causing the transmission issues. He offered to drive it to another mechanic and didn't charge me for his time. He then checked up with me to make sure I was happy with the other mechanic so he could be confident in recommending them in the future. Overall, great customer service!

I just moved to Portland and within a week needed a mechanic. Concerned about getting swindled, I came to this web site to find a place that was highly recommended and that's how I ended up at this shop. I can't agree more with the comments from other customers; Dave was straight- forward, didn't talk down to me or over my head, and didn't charge until he actually fixed something (no charge for the lengthy diagnosis, that is). When I called him later on to ask about a new problem with my truck he said that it sounded like the break pads and that he would be happy to confirm the diagnosis if I'd bring the truck by. Even though he doesn't fix breaks and doesn't stand to make a dime off my failing break pads! Highly recommended!

It is rare to find a shop with knowledge of older vehicles that will take the time to repair rather than immediately replace everything. Dave is an experienced shop owner who took the time to explain the idiosyncrasies of my model of the Ford Explorer and give me his best advice on how my problem might be solved without spending a fortune on a new transmission. After a full service and the replacement of a faulty modulator, my 1993 was shifting like new and I expect to get many more useful miles out of it. Don't hesitate to give Dave a call if you would like an honest diagnosis and repair of your transmission.
