John will suggest to you alternatives to making an expensive repair such as, "You can either overhaul the engine, or you can just carry around a quart of oil and check the oil once in a while. I would just carry the oil." One time he was not able to fix the problem, so he asked to keep the car so that he could figure it out and learn something in the process. In a day he figured it out and did not charge us.

Most times the repair bill turns out to be less than I was expecting. At least twice, this mechanic had the oppurtunity to really take me for a ride (so to speak), but didn't.

Years ago, when I took my Subaru to another shop in town and they put it on the lift, I forget what the problem was then, maybe just a tire rotation... The mechanic complained about a dirty engine and showed me all the places oil was leaking... I had already replaced some of the seals, but didn't want to spend the bucks on the last ones. I took the car to John and asked if I really had to spend $500 to fix all the leaks. He said a case of oil was cheaper. Well said. John fixes what needs to be fixed (with dealer parts) and won't fix what doesn't. I know I won't get ripped off at John's.

My Ford Ranger is going to be 17 years old in a few months. The very first time a mechanic worked on her, I was unsatisfied, and that never changed until I took her to John's when she was 14 years old. Now I am so confident that I can keep her running with John's help, I don't care that she is actually a rust bucket.

I first tried John's with the assistance of Car Talk mechanic reviews. I was 100% satisfied with the work and the price (I had gotten several quotes from other shops). Since then John has done several more repairs for me, all with the same high level of work. I'm very happy to have found a highly competent, honest, and economical mechanic.

I'm a first time user of John's. My Mazda was running rough so I needed a tune up. They found the problem and found a replacement at the local junk yard for $35 rather than $400 from the dealer. The car now runs like a top. I definitely will go back to him in the future.

My car broke down in Corvallis, about 40 miles from my home in Eugene. I used Cars.com to find a reliable mechanic in Corvallis and ended up selecting John's Auto Repair. Their customer service was excellent and the price was very reasonable - equal to what my very trusted mechanic in Eugene said it should be. The car is running fine now and the shop worked with me over the phone the whole time. They were able to keep my car for several days before the work was done and after it was finished so I could make arrangements from afar. I highly recommend John's Auto Repair!

Had a great experience with these guys! I'm an out-of- state college student, and had a blown head gasket on my 1990 Toyota Pick-Up. I looked around at another shop and decided to take my truck to John's. They gave me an estimate that was $700.00 less, and ended up charging me $20.00 less than their original estimate. I would recommend John's to anybody who's looking for a quality, timely repair at a bargain price.
