Dave is the co-owner...I saw someone else had responded and didn't give the shop as good of a reccomendation as I thought it deserved. I have 6 friends with VW's and all take their cars to D&M....they are always willing to let me drop by to take a look at something (no "we can fit you in, say, 1st tues of next month"), and have been good at telling me what I could do myself vs. what requires special tools, etc. Also has been VERY reasonable cost-wise--I've never walked out of there feeling overcharged, and have in fact had them adjust or do minor things without charging for the labor. Only downside is the location if you are in downtown/eastside PDX (although it's easily accessable from 2 freeways) and they do close at 5. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED.

For as long as I can remember, my dad has been taking our '72 van to Dave. When the van became mine, I found that Dave was one of the most knowledgeble VW mechanics in town, and the price was always reasonable. On expensive repairs such as tranny/engine fixes, he always gave me cheaper options (rebuilds, etc), and let me know of thier drawbacks. He seemed to know every inch of the van front and back, and always explained the problem and repair to me. Perhaps the only drawbacks of the shop are thier hours and thier location. They're only open until 5, and they're out of the way for people living in Portland. Otherwise, definately a competent, hoent little shop. My only regret from selling that van is that I can't deal with D&M anymore.

I've had 5 different Volkswagens over the years and Dave has taken care of all of them. There is no point in buying a new car when you have a good mechanic!!!!!

This place works on VW and Audi, mainly. THey seem to have a strong following of devoted customers. I was recommended to them by one such devotee. Dave is very honest about not suggesting (or rather, suggesting against) repairs that can wait. Perhaps to a fault, even. I always ask if my brakes look ok. After repeated visits where my brakes could "wait", I returned about 9 months later to need new pads AND rotors. I wonder if I could have prevented that (???). Overall, I really trust these guys, and I have a lot of company in that opinion. Dave is a stickler for all VW original parts - the labor is reasonable, but the parts make the price a little higher. I won't take my car anywhere else, not even for an oil change!

I left a note with my car on a Sunday to call me if it was over $100. They called me early Monday morning with an EIGHT dollar bill. EIGHT dollars, when they had a $100 blank check. I'm sold. They get all my VW business.
