Even though I live in New York City and drive a Plymouth and my mechanic lives in Ithaca and specializes in Volkswagens, I routinely drive the 250 miles to have Karl look at my car. He is extremely honest, competent and friendly and is a miracle-worker. If you own a Volks, he has a graveyard of parts he can use to keep it going as he has done for me on many occasions back when I owned a volks.

To bring my '78 volkswagon type II (which I was devastated to see was #10 on CT 10 worse car list)to Karl Jaentch's garage is like giving the van a harkening back to its German roots. Sometimes, on my way home from his place I envision Karl speaking to her in German, congratulating her for being in such solid shape. Like the master he is, he takes my often botchy and at beast vague data and my van, and when I return it makes that healthy, magical vw pinging sound.

  • Saabing
I've been through many problems with my Saab and spent several years taking it to various shops in the area and the former dealer in Syracuse. Recently, I had a repair from another shop go bad and so I took it to David because I felt like I could trust him. The repairs were difficult to sort out but during the ordeal I gained tremendous respect for David's talent and business ethics. I know I can trust him to do the right thing and, most importantly, be fully forthcoming about the various options for investigating a repair, for parts procurement, and for labor costs. His labor rate may appear higher than some other shops but he wisely spends enough time assessing the problem that unnecessary repairs are minimized. For the first time in 20 years I have no doubts about my mechanic. Go to David at AJ's and you can relax, knowing that he'll do the right thing.
