I drive around an old Chevy with nearly 200,000. I may not always like the news that Joke gives me, but one thing I must say is this --- he always fixes the problem! There has not been a single time this old crate in, that Joke has not fixed it the first time. Plus, he does not laugh at my car! So, if you get stuck around downtown Brooklyn or Manhattan, go all the way under the Brooklyn Bridge, and let Joke and his crew take a look at your vehicle. Do not ever, ever go to the garages in the West 20's of Manhattan! Do yourself a favor and go to Excel, even if it means towing it there. Excel is also nice because it is a family affair, Bro & Sis, and the older gent with the cap is Dad!

Another happy customer. I happened across Joke when my car broke down in the neighborhood. I walked into a local coffee shop and three different people spontaneously replied, "Go to Joke." He took less than an hour to fix the problem, went into exhaustive detail about what was needed, and astually listened to me (a chick) when I told him what I thought. He even went to far as to say, "You had it right, it was...." Consider me a convert.

They are really busy, but don't b.s. about it, and will tell you to come back when they can handle the job, and not keep you waiting for days, wondering when you might be able to see your car again. They have been right about diagnosing problems 80% of the time. When they're wrong, they have gotten it right the second time (or when there was more than one thing wrong), and will work hard to get your car back to you quickly. They have also been honest about saying whither or not a repair has to be done. The prices aren't cheap, but they deserve what they get.

I wrote a poem about this Garage because I am a Satisfied Customer. I am a first time used car owner and I can honestly say I feel extremely comfortable leaving my car there. The garage was recommended to me by a friend who had nothing but good things to say. I wish EXCEL MOTOR WORKS and their wonderful staff Good Luck always. Best wishes for much success! FINALLY A SAFE PLACE FOR MY BABY, MY MAXIMA ! THE 1ST TIME I DROVE DOWN TO "60 OLD FULTON STREET", I NEVER THOUGHT A FRIENDLIER STAFF I WOULD MEET. WHICH MADE LEAVING MY CAR FOR A CHANGE A TREAT, FEELING THEY'D RETURN MY CAR SOUNDING OH, SO SWEET. WE ALL KNOW A GOOD MECHANIC IS TRULY HARD TO FIND, ONE THAT WILL GET RID OF THE PROBLEM AND ON YOUR WALLET BE SO KIND. I SPEAK AS A SATISFIED CUSTOMER, I ALSO ENJOYED THE PERKS, PEACE OF MIND THAT COMES FROM GREAT SERVICE, ONLY AT "EXCEL MOTOR WORKS"! Ms. Magdalena Cruz 2001

I chose Excel in 1990 simply because it was nearby, after taking my newly acquired 1975 Toyota Celica GT (my first car) to a couple of other shops for inspection and feeling scammed. I couldn't have chosen better. Joke and staff kept it running well until I parted with it in '98 (wasn't using it much and insurance got too much to bear), with only one or two services a year. I'd drop it off at 8 in the morning and pick it up the same evening (unless they were really busy, when it might take a couple of days). Never felt overcharged, never an unnecessary repair. Even now that I no longer live nearby, I'd still consider taking my car (when I get another one!) all the way to Excel.

Even though they're busy, Joke will always take the time to answer all your questions clearly, and he never seems rushed. He'll save you money when he can, and he'll get it right the first time. There are cheaper mechanics in Brooklyn, but I don't think there are better ones. You get what you pay for. They're right off the BQE if you're driving, and a reasonable walk to almost every train in the city.

I found excel on this web-page. And so far I've been pleased with their service. Go figure! To fully disclose, all service has been routine maintenance on a new car. They correctly diagnosed (for a reasonalble charge) a bad ball-joint which I had replaced by the dealer (warenty repair).
