This report is based on only one (incredibly fortunate) experience, therefore, most of the standard questions above are based on minimal sampling. We broke down on Interstate 25 south of Santa Fe, NM on a Saturday afternoon. I limped into a roadside rest station/ tourist info stop and asked for recommendations from the (local) staff member. I called the mechanic he suggested and also arranged for a tow. They were waiting for us at the shop (late Sat. afternoon). Ed quickly diagnosed the broken (missing) alternator belt (which I was aware of), ordered a new one (along with the other two belts which a Toyota pickup needs), waited for their arrival, installed them all, and charged $20 for labor and $32 for three belts. His bill was less than the tow truck charge. His shop, though small, was clean and well organized. The staff were all personable, and the job was performed quickly and competently. After traveling across country and breaking down in the Middle of Nowhere, Texas, we had our Volvo towed to our new home in New Mexico. We located E.T. on the Car Talk website and tried him. The problem was a bad fuel pump. E.T. replaced it, but the pump was faulty. The next one was faulty, too. E.T. kept going back to the Volvo dealer until they gave him one that worked. He charged us only for the parts and labor for the first job. He and his staff did subsequent work and routine maintenance on our car and we were always satisfied.

The owner of E.T.'s Automotive, Eddie Trembley, will pick my car up while I am at work, do an oil change and anything else I need, and deliver it back to me by the end of the day. He is totally trustworthy, very skilled and knowledgable and a really good guy.

Eddie is great. He shows me what's going on in and underneath my car and explains how things work (or don't work). I learned a lot and he is fun and friendly and willing to chat and answer questions. I also got rides to and from the shop to drop off and pick up my car, which was nice.
