I met Bob about ten years ago shortly after I bought a used Volvo which began giving me problems from the day I bought it. Bob was a customer in a restaurant I was working in and I began taking my car into his shop on what became a monthly basis. Finally, after at least 10 months, I took the car in one day, concerned by yet another new noise coming from the engine. Bob popped the hood, listened, and reassured me the sound I was concerned about was nothing to worry about, but this other noise sounded like trouble. He turned to me and told me to dump the car. I then bought a brand new Tercel which was wonderful, except that I no longer had reason to see Bob on a monthly basis. Since that time I have recommended him to a number of people, all of whom have become devoted customers.

I have known for years that Bob is one of the best mechanics in Albuquerque, but when I over heard his name mentioned as a great mechanic at a party I was at several years ago I knew I had the right guy.

If you are in a hurry, don't ask about his last hunting trip!(Ha, Ha) He is a hunting fool! If he can't fix it, he'll tell ya. He is quick to tell ya where to take it. I have had him fix little things and not charge me. (I tell him that I want to pay and if he won't let me I'm gona take my biz elsewhere. (Ha, Ha. No way!)

Bob was very good about explaining the problem and continuing the conversation as he knew more. I went to them because my check engine light was on so I couldn't pass emissions. The first problem was a simple fix that I had been troubleshooting for years and he fixed in 10 min with a little solder. I like to tinker on my car so he showed what he was doing and where and why. The other problem took some time and troubleshooting. Went through a whole list of "free" fixes (time is still money but not costly parts). When he figured out what part I needed they called around and go me a price on a new part and found some used ones. The new part would have cost me $185. They found me a used one for $65. They saved me time and money. It was a great experience.

The shop has worked on all of my cars. Agree with a couple of earlier quotes - unless you have the time steer away from talking hunting or fishing. Shop has always been honest and forthright about work performed as well as recommendations. Bob does oversee all the work and has a great set of mechanics. When asked, Bob will even give you an opinion of whether you can do the work yourself or not.

When other shops would not even look at my old project car ("too old," "too hard to get parts"), Bob and his crew took it in, treated it with respect, and seemed to actually enjoy working on it. Each problem that had evaded my attempts to fix it myself was hunted down and solved, and the car runs fantastically now. While not the "cheapest" shop it town, I would certainly call it reasonable and, what's more, I don't feel bad giving them my money because they earn it and treat me well (unlike some other places, that charge you an arm and a leg and don't really fix the car). Bob has always been happy to chat about my car, and has given me advice on repairing things myself at times (as someone else has said). The only reason I gave "repair it the first time" 4 instead of 5 is that I had a hard to troubleshoot problem that he wasn't able to fix before I wanted to pick up the car. I called Bob a few days later and he asked me to bring it back because he thought of a few more things to try, and fixed it completely. I have a feeling that it personally bothered him that he wasn't able to figure it out right away; I have a tremendous amount of respect for that. This is a great shop, I moved to Albuquerque a year ago and was lucky to go there almost right away (after seeing these reviews) - I wouldn't risk taking one of my cars anywhere else!
