Like Eric Pogozelski at Metuchen Transmission, I am a fellow independent automotive service professional in the Metuchen/Edison, NJ area; the business I work for (Bill's Ineffable Automotive Rehabiliation, listed here on Cartalk) works very hard to maintain a near fifty year old reputation for thoroughly honest, competent and reliable automotive service. We perform nearly all phases of light truck and general automotive maintenance and repair on nearly all makes and models of just about any age, specializing in all aspects of automotive diagnostics, air conditioning repair and individual customer service. As they get to know us, most of our clients as us "what kind of work do you do?" We respond "it would be more suitable to ask us what we don't do." For example, one of the things we don't do is rebuild transmissions. Sure, we replace clutches, change transmission fluid and sometimes replace transmissions; but when we or our clients need professional transmission support we call the expert: Eric Pogozelski at Metuchen Transmission. Our clients deserve and receive individualized, honest and reliable customer service; part of what allows us to do the job we love to do is knowing that we receive the same type of service from Metuchen Transmission. Like us, the services received at Metuchen Transmission can be a bit more expensive than other independent shops or corporate chain/"drive through" automotive service centers but still often much less than taking your vehicle back to the dealer. However, we take great satisfaction from knowing that in today's world you really do get what you pay for. At Metuchen Transmission you are paying for honest, reliable transmission diagnosis and repair work that is of superior quality than most other transmission shops. After entrusting many of our client's vehicles (and our personal vehicles as well) to Metuchen Transmission for well over ten years now, we can state with great confidence that if your vehicle has a definitely has a problem with its transmission then you will be hard pressed to find another transmission shop that will do a better job diagnosing and repairing the problem. Most transmission work on today's modern vehicles has the potential to be very expensive. If you find yourself having to invest your hard earned money in expensive transmission work then you can rest easy knowing your investment will be well protected by having your transmission repair work performed by Eric at Metuchen Transmission. Like Eric, we appreciate what it takes to get the job done right.

I was having intermittent problems with my Mazda 626 and took the car to 2 other mechanics to diagnose the problem. Each one recommended something else be done to solve the problem: a tune up, a transmission flush and replacement of the catalytic converter, all of which did not correct the problem. One recommended rebuilding the transmission, so I immediately went to Metuchen Transmission. Years ago, I had gone to Metuchen Transmission, and Eric diagnosed and fixed my previous car. Eric took the time to test drive the Mazda, diagnosed the problem, and fixed the car the next day! It's nice to find an honest, trustworthy mechanic who really knows his stuff! I would highly recommend Eric at Metuchen Transmission.

We had a problem with our jeep and our friend recommended Eric at Metuchen Transmission. Even though it is far from where we live it was worth it. He took the jeep was a test drive, diagnosed and fixed it right away. Eric is very professional, trustworthy and honest. We would highly recommend his shop!

This is one of those rarely found car repair shops where the owner knows exactly what's wrong with your car as you pull in the driveway. I hate to use the word "genius," but Eric, the owner, is a very perceptive and erudite man who has a deep interest in why things mechanical go wrong. His prices are fair (doesn't charge when he thinks the problem is minor) and his repairs stay fixed. I recently brought my car to Eric to locate a strange rattling sound from under the passenger compartment. I had already brought the car to three other shops, including the Ford dealer. One said they couldn't make the car make the sound (which was only audible at 40 mph plus). The second one said there was no rattle; the third, the dealer, said they heard the sound and fixed it. Not. I brought the car to Eric, and a few minutes after putting it on a lift, he found a large sheet of metal that separates the catalytic converter from the passenger compartment. It was banging around, almost ready to fall off. He zapped it with a few bolts, and the sound went away. All it took was confidence in looking for the problem. Prior to that, Eric took the car out for a ride to ascertain the location of the rattle. His treatment was very thorough. Did I mention that he didn't charge for the repair? He also repaired my transmission about 20 months ago, and the car rides like a new vehicle. I trust his judgment, and I recommend him to anyone, including people who have a scant knowledge of cars and why they go wrong.

Eric is awesome mechanic. I bought used '03 nissan maxima and after a month or so, there was a clicking noise coming out of the hood during 2nd and 3rd gear. Since i was new in the area, I took it to another mechanic on my friend's recommendation, who told me about a bunch of different causes ranging from axial problem, dust in engine to a tranny problem. I got engine flushed and oil changed as an ititial step which cost me about $75. But it didn't work. Then he advised me to get tranny checked and to get it fixed which could range from a part replacement to rebuilding the whole tranny. He was talking in so much confusion as if he were not sure what the problem could be. I felt like he was going to throw me in a ditch of expensive replacements. I searched online about tranny specialist to get a second opinion in order to clear a doubt from my mind. I found about Metuchen transmission and i went there. I described my problem to Eric. He drove my car im a way to put its transmission under stressful test. After driving car for about 10 min, he confidently said that this doesn't seem to be a tranny issue. Even if it is, it should be repairable for a couple of hundred dollars. He recommended me to switch from regular 87 gasoline to 93 and from regular oil to synthetic one and return back after 2 weeks. I did the same. To my surprise, the noise was gone and till date it has never come back. And guess what do i owe him - just a thank you and not even a single penny. Thank you Eric for a genuine advice.

It's the new year and Metuchen Transmission is still going strong! Eric is just such a stand up guy. My dad had a Honda and Acura that needed some serious transmission repair. Eric, in a timely manner, fixed both at a very reasonable price. Recently, I came across a problem on my Toyota Solara and I scheduled an appointment for Eric to check it out. Basically, I did a valve cover gasket change myself, and after putting everything back together, my car did not drive well. Eventually, the Solara started to stall. Eric did his diagnostic tests and it turns out the ground wires connecting to the plenum were loose. He tightened them up. He tested the throttle body with brake cleaner fluid to see if there were any vacuum leaks. Also, he noticed that my brake fluid was low, and added some to top it off. See where I'm going with this? It's the little things and attention to detail that make a great mechanic. Best of all, I was not charged for his services. I've been to shops that took my money before performing any diagnostic test. Not Metuchen Transmission. Eric was looking to give advice and save me money every step of the way. Always a pleasure, and I hope anyone looking for an honest and thorough mechanic will do business with this shop.

Always honest, and trying to save the customer money! I took my Jeep Wrangler there one time, thinking that I had a transmission problem, and it turned out to be a bad universal joint on the front shaft. It was diagnosed quickly, and repaired just as quick at a very fair price. Remembering this experience, I recently brought my pick-up truck there, because I was feeling what I thought was a transmission shudder. It was properly diagnosed as an ignition issue, and I was able to repair it myself. I wouldn't go anywhere else for a transmission problem or for anything that I thought might be a transmission problem. The owner is very easy to work with, and needless to say is very capable of repairs beyond the transmission. I'm not even sure what his labor rate is, because the work that I've been charged for has been so reasonable, and the recent visit/diagnosis was done free of charge! Can't ask for more than that!
